    Group Compliance Specialist

    • To implement compliance risk management solutions within strategic guidelines and policies and to facilitate the management of compliance risks and breaches within the Business Unit through application of accepted risk management principles.
    • Reporting to the Senior Manager: Group Compliance, the successful incumbent will be responsible for proactively and constructively assisting business in managing its responsibility to comply with all regulatory items and minimise compliance risks through the provision of advice and guidelines to operational management through the application of risk management principles, policies, processes and procedures.  

    Minimum Requirements    
    Formal Qualifications

    • Matric
    • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce
    • Postgraduate Diploma in Compliance Risk Management (advantageous)
    • FAIS RE 1 (Key Individual exam) advantageous, requirement for registration as FAIS Compliance Officer

    Knowledge & Experience

    • At least 6 years’ experience in financial services compliance, long-term/life insurance experience will receive preference
    • Experience in auditing/background in auditing
    • Knowledge of Financial Services Regulatory Environment
    • Legislative Knowledge
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Compliance Risk Management Methodology
    • Working knowledge of CURA (advantageous)
    • Ability to write, communicate and interpret legislative requirement at the appropriate level
    • Ability to implement annual compliance plan
    • Ability to advise business on compliance matters

    Duties and Responsibilities    
    Key Responsibilities

    • Project management and implementation of key compliance projects.
    • Identify gaps or potential deficiencies in compliance and other business areas and resolve.
    • Presentations to members of Exco, or key resource used by Exco, for delivery of projects.
    • Risk Assessment of Regulatory items.
    • Comments on draft bills and other draft regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain compliance risk assessments and compliant risk management plans for prioritised regulatory items on CURA.
    • Developed and maintained compliance monitoring plans.
    • Compliance monitoring activities.
    • Recommended corrective actions – prescribing and escalations.
    • Managed corrective action.
    • Managed complaints.
    • Managed breaches and risk exposures.
    • Implementation of requirements arising from new and amended regulatory items.
    • Compliance training on regulatory items.
    • Training on compliance methodology.
    • Compliance reporting.
    • Provide advice to business on compliance matters and implementation of controls, including control effectiveness assessments.
    • Support business in providing necessary updates on CURA.

    Fixed Term Contract Talent Acquisition Coordinator (Internal Only)

    • The purpose of this 6-month fixed term contract role is to support the provision of a superior candidate experience and promote the PPS brand. The incumbent will provide administrative support to the Financial Advisory Talent Acquisition department as it relates to the end-to-end recruitment and selection process and will support the acquisition of top talent for Financial Advisory.

    Accountant: Group Finance

    • Reporting to the Manager: Group Finance, the role is responsible for the processing and reporting of financial transactions of PPS Insurance Company Limited and PPS Insurance Company (Namibia) Limited. 
    • This role is responsible is also responsible for the capturing, reconciling, reporting and commentary of financial information for the long-term insurance entities.

    Minimum Requirements    
    Education:

    • Newly qualified CA (SA)

    Experience:

    • Competed Articles
    • Previous experience in an Insurance company would be an advantage
    • IFRS17 knowledge an advantage
    • Proven track record of being involved in the preparation or audit of Annual Financial Statements in the financial services sector
    • Exposure to various software solutions
    • Knowledge of Great Plains an advantage

    Knowledge and Skills (maximum of 10):

    • Good technical accounting knowledge of IFRS. This role gives technical input into Accounting for PPS Insurance Limited and PPS Insurance (Namibia) Limited and disclosure thereof
    • Financial Reporting knowledge and understanding
    • Managing process and people to meet strategic objectives and deadlines
    • Key person ensuring control environment is sound regarding Financial Reporting
    • Expresses opinions, information and key points of view clearly and assertively

    Duties and Responsibilities    

    Processing

    • Processing transactions in the General Ledger system including Reinsurance, Expenses, provisions and other.
    • Responsible for the invoicing and monitoring of payments between company and subsidiaries
    • Responsible for the payment of monthly reinsurance
    • Managing the Accounting Treatment of all leases within the companies
    • Managing the recoverability of reinsurance claims from reinsurers with the actuarial department
    • Authorisation of procurement payments

    Reconciling

    • Reconciling all relevant balance sheet accounts to third party documentation
    • Resolving outstanding issues timeously

    Management Reporting

    • Commentary on variances in the I/S and B/S of the insurance entities.
    • Monitoring of expenses to Budget by Company / Cost centre and familiar with reasons for variances
    • Preparation of monthly expense reports to be sent to each Exco member
    • Preparation of Exco slides for Budget / Forecast

    Budgeting

    • Overseeing and managing the budget process for Namibia entity
    • Input of budgets for central costs and revenues
    • Review of budgets and obtain a sound knowledge of what is driving income and expenses
    • Preparing budget /forecast presentations for Exco and Board budget meetings

    Statutory reporting

    • Preparation of the annual financial statements of PPS Insurance Company Limited and PPS Insurance Company (Namibia) Limited
    • Providing all requested information to auditors (external & internal) and attending to Audit queries

    Team support

    • Providing input into tax and statutory reporting
    • Running of all Trial Balances from Great Plains
    • Work closely with bookkeepers & creditors to ensure correct accounting and allocations in General Ledger
    • Assisting with Ad Hoc requests

    Special Projects

    • Actively involved in new projects including automation projects
