    Test Plant Metarllugist

    Job Role

    Analyzing test data

    • Once the tests are carried out, the metallurgist is accountable for analyzing the test results and data obtained.
    • This involves interpreting the data, compiling reports, and making recommendations based on the findings.
    • They should be able to identify any issues or inconsistencies in the results and provide solutions or suggestions for improvement.

    Developing and optimizing processes

    • The test plant metallurgist is responsible for developing and optimizing mineral processing and extraction processes. Must be knowledgeable about the equipment used in mineral processing and work towards improving process efficiency and yield.
    • This could involve modifying existing processes, developing new processes, or utilizing different technologies or equipment.

    Troubleshooting and problem-solving

    • The test plant metallurgist should be able to troubleshoot and solve problems effectively.
    • This could involve identifying the root cause of any problems, proposing solutions, and implementing corrective actions to prevent similar issues in the future.
    • They should also be able to assess the impact of any changes or modifications on overall plant operations.

    Research and development

    • The metallurgist should stay up to date with the latest advancements and trends in metallurgical processes and technologies.
    • They should actively engage in research and development activities to enhance the plant's capabilities, improve product performance, and explore new opportunities.
    • This could involve conducting feasibility studies, evaluating new process technologies, or working on collaborative projects with universities or research institutions.

    Training and knowledge sharing

    • The metallurgist should provide training and support to plant personnel, especially operators and technicians involved in mineral processing.
    • They should develop training materials, conduct workshops or seminars, and share knowledge and best practices to ensure that the team is equipped with the necessary skills and expertise.
    • This includes promoting a safe working environment and adhering to all health and safety protocols.

    Customer support and technical assistance

    • The test plant metallurgist is accountable for providing technical assistance and support to customers, particularly mines and industrial clients.
    • They should be able to understand customer requirements, provide technical recommendations, and address any technical queries or concerns.
    • This may involve visiting customer sites, conducting audits, and offering on-site support for installations or process optimization.

    Collaboration and communication

    • The test plant metallurgist should collaborate and communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including internal teams, customers, suppliers, and industry organizations.
    • They must work closely with the sales and process team to ensure smooth integration of metallurgical processes with equipment design.
    • Additionally, they should actively participate in industry conferences, forums, and associations to stay connected with industry peers and exchange knowledge and experiences.

    Requirements

    • Grade 12
    • Degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or similar (Preferable)
    • Previously R&D experience in Spirals and cyclones would be an advantage.
    • Experience in mass, water and energy balances compulsory.
    • At least 3 years’ experience in mineral processing plants
    • Computer literate
    • Valid driver’s license
