    Technical Trainer: Fitting & Turning

    Purpose of the job

    • The incumbent will be required to apply various training and development initiatives to support the Technical Training Department’s mandate of ensuring a seamless supply of skills and employee development for Production related training, learners in both Learnerships, Apprenticeships Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) and Artisan development.

    Duties And Responsibilities

    • Identifies training needs and certification requirements relevant to the Technical Training Centre.
    • Plans and directs classroom training, electronic learning, multimedia programs, and other computer-aided instructional technologies, simulators, conferences and workshops.
    • Prepares and conducts technical training programs using recognized training techniques and tools.
    • Prepares training material and classroom agenda.
    • Implements and monitors Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning programme for selected learners.
    • Evaluates and. enhances technical instructional delivery on continuous basis
    • Ensures the quality and consistency of course content throughout the life cycle of a course.
    • Manages the training program in accordance with business needs, regulatory requirements, and the technical training QMS.
    • Ensures apprentices/learners are competent in all the required training modules.
    • Prepares apprentices for trade tests.
    • Identifies internal and external technical training programs to address competency/learning gaps.
    • Liaises with internal stakeholders regarding employee training .needs & skills development.
    • Liaises with subject matter experts regarding instructional design.
    • Develops training aids such as learner guides, manuals, handbooks, practical examples (mock- ups), slide shows, hand-outs, etc.
    • Informs employees about various technical training options.
    • Designs and develops individual training and development plans.
    • Manages all necessary consumables relevant learning programmes
    • Participates in the actions of improvement within area of responsibility
    • Supports production by coaching & monitoring employees on the line.
    • Prepares and Conducts outcomes-based assessment of presented learning programmes
    • Facilitates learning through a variety of delivery methods including classroom instruction, on-the-job coaching, and training, etc.
    • Conducts training in minimum two special process and special operations training modules, respectively (Alstom Transport).
    • Designs and applies assessment tools to measure training effectiveness.
    • Provides feedback to program participants and management on progress, implementation and evaluation of programs applicable to the technical training QMS.
    • Maintains employee training records.
    • Ensures that all EHS rules & regulations are adhered to.
    • Ensures that all company rules & regulations are adhered to.
    • Establishes and maintains relationships with internal and external training providers.
    • Keeps abreast of all relevant training legislative changes.
    • Keeps up to date with current technical training design and development methodologies.
    • Attends all the required meetings.
    • Maintains discipline in the Technical Training Centre.
    • Prepares and presents reports to business as may be required.
    • Manages all assets in area of responsibility.
    • Implements, drives & maintains APSYS program in the training centre.

    Qualifications And Experience

    • Grade 12
    • Minimum NTC 5
    • Fitting & Turning Trade Test Qualification (Red Seal)
    • Assessor Qualification
    • Facilitator Qualification
    • 6 years post-Apprenticeship experience in Fitting & Turning. At least 2 years of those shall be as a Qualified artisan Fitter & Turner gained in manufacturing (preferably rail or automotive).
    • Minimum 2 years experience as a Technical Trainer
    • Experience in the development of theoretical and practical learning resources and assessment
    • Comprehensive computer skills (MS Office suite, Internet and Email)

    Added advantage

    • Higher Certificate: Occupationally Directed Education, Training and Development Practices
    • National Technical Diploma (Mechanical Engineering)
