    Superintendent Payroll

    • The Superintendent: Payroll is accountable for overseeing and directing the South Deep SAP-based scheduled and cyclical payroll operations and for co-developing and leading payroll optimisation interventions and projects.  Drawing from an established payroll team leadership, technical systems, software, data integration and query management track record, the incumbent leads effective payroll delivery aligned to payroll operating procedures, compliance with applicable legal, tax and auditing standards, accurate record management and employee benefits administration and execution.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field
    • 5 years SAP payroll experience with a minimum of 3 years’ payroll team leadership experience
    • Established payroll systems maintenance, configuration and optimisation track record
    • Computer literate with proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and SAP
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

    • Advanced track record in SAP Payroll End-to-End process up to general ledger interface and bank posting
    • Sound knowledge and application of SARS legislation, PAYE calculation, SARS mid-year and annual IRP5 submission processes
    • Proven business process improvement appreciation, problem solving and analytical skills

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Actively engage in and demonstrate Visible Felt Leadership aligned to operational SHE standards, operational campaigns and instructions and, ensuring appropriate remediation interventions formulated and executed
    • Maintain effective people management practices by ensuring that team roles and competencies are clearly defined, and that effective team delivery is maintained through managing workload, assigning tasks and reviewing/ recognising outputs of team members
    • Schedule and direct cyclical and ad-hoc end-to-end payroll preparation, execution and closure activities to ensure effective payroll delivery  
    • Prepare SARS payments and reconciliations for review and approval
    • Review, sign–off and release all third party, salary and statutory payments
    • Review all payroll system issues and attend all related meetings
    • Prepare and process all Bulk Uploads
    • Review of Payroll Finance reconciliations
    • Execute and balance all interim and month end pay runs
    • Perform monthly payroll compliance reviews and prepare Payroll Reports and Statistics
    • Manage the administration of the Senior Official’s Payroll
    • Maintain employee records, including filing and archiving
    • Prepare ad-hoc reports and participate in projects as required
    • Partner with HR on the administration of the life cycle of employees and other relevant matters
    • Effectively liaise with external clientele, e.g. Medical Aids, Retirement Funds, Banking institutions
    • Attend and provide feedback to management and employees on salary payment queries
