    Space Education Officer - Pretoria

    Description

    Reporting to the Space Education Specialist, the Space Education Officer, is required to create awareness regarding the existence, benefits, and value of space science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to educational institutions and students. They provide support in gaining funding, and grants to promote and grow the awareness of SANSA.

    Key performance areas will include, but are not limited to:

    • Public outreach and space awareness raising.
    • Space Outreach and Education.
    • Stakeholder Engagement and Administration.

    Requirements

    The ideal candidate must have the following qualifications and experience:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Space Science, Astronomy, Education, Science Communication, or a related field.
    • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a trainer/ educator in a scientific institution.
    • A valid driver’s license.
    • Demonstrated experience in educational program development and delivery, particularly in space science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
    • Knowledge of space science concepts and the ability to communicate them effectively to diverse audiences.
    • Excellent organisational and project management skills.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Proficiency in using digital tools and social media for educational purposes.
    • Creative and innovative thinking with strong problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Experience working with diverse communities and underrepresented groups in STEM.
    • Familiarity with informal education settings such as planetariums, science centres, or museums.
    • Background in creating multimedia educational content.

    Working conditions.

    • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required for events and programs.
    • The role requires travel to various locations for outreach events and programs.
    • Ability to lift and transport materials and equipment for events and activities.
