    Senior Specialist, MAM and Evaluation

    Job Advert Summary    
    PURPOSE:

    • Maintain independency in the warrant of strategic geological and mine models and exploration plans to ensure compliance and robustness.
    • Conduct assessments on specific tactical aspects within the resource and or reserve value chain as to test validity, robustness as to provide solutions.
    • Conduct strategic-tactical assessments of mineral assets, internal as well as those with minority/majority stakes agreements and identify and quantify risks and opportunities that could impact Exxaro as a business
    • Facilitate and manage independent external Tier 1 R&R audits in support of the principal.
    • Warrant estimates to identify business risks and monitor compliance to JSE listing 13 requirements
    • Compile and track reconciliation as to warrant compliance and outline risks / challenges.
    •  Provide high level expert technical support/direction to integrated project teams/individuals.
    •  Establish pass/fail criteria in terms of all aspects of resources and reserves from primary exploration data gathering to long-term geological and mine modelling.

     MAJOR CHALLENGES:

    • Maintain independency to warrant data, information, and models  
    • Drive corrective measures to conclusion
    • Seamless view across business resources and reserves estimation and reporting processes
    • Independent view on processes and value.
    • Independent view on quarterly and annual reconciliation.

    Minimum Requirements    

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    •    BSc Mining Geology (Essential/Minimum or)
    •    BEng Engineering (Relevant) (Essential/Minimum)
    •    MSc Geology (Recommended/Desirable or)
    •    MSc Mining Engineering (Recommended/Desirable or)
    •    MSc Mineral Resource Management (Recommended/Desirable or)
    •    Masters Degree (Relevant) (Recommended/Desirable)
    •    Management Development Programme (Recommended/Desirable)

    EXPERIENCE: 

    • 10-12 years Knowledge and experience on operational and project regarding mining, metallurgy, geology, and reporting. Experience as an estimator to facilitate basic evaluations. Experience in conceptualising, managing, and executing problem solving initiatives.  (Essential/Minimum)  Management

    •    Registered with Professional Body (Essential/Minimum)

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    Develop technical assessment procedure    

    • Outline clear and achievable operating design, with objectives, processes, and deliverables.
    • Outline key management, functional and operational stakeholders.
    • Ensure alignment with best industry practise and local and international reporting codes.
    • Outline clear accountabilities during planning and execution.
    • Focus on efficiency and easy accessibility and exclude unnecessary red tape requirements.

    Direct deliverables    

    • Warrant integrity and conduct interventions for resources and reserves.
    • Warrant technical techniques and deliverables on a stand-off basis.
    • Conduct reviews of internal, JV and/or acquisitions resources and reserves.
    • Facilitate external and internal tier 1 audits and reviews under the auspices of the chief audit officer.
    • Conduct tier 2 and 3 internal reviews and interventions.
    • Conduct ad hoc technical assessment / evaluations.
    • Develop an integrate risk register and track to ensure that all corrective measures are concluded within time.
    • Test implementation of corrective measure against original objectives to ensure benefits are reached.
    • Establish reconciliation practise and measure and report.
    • In conjunction with MAM principals ensure peer reviews when required.

    • In conjunction with MAM and commodity principals align and influence on critical skills development and talent in order to achieve objectives.
    • Ensure clear communication of individual, divisional and business objectives and drive performance towards their fulfilment.

    • Promote and participate in cross-functional collaboration and relationship-building activities among reporting team members and functional groupings, internal and external.

    • Establish best in industry validation techniques for exploration, resources and reserves integrity and utilization thereof.
    • Establish best in industry reconciliation, measure, and reporting.

    Governance & Processes    

    • Build an internal and external ecosystem to source and implement new innovative ideas to improve accessibility, information utilization and strategic business support.
    • Align with group competent persons and MAM principals for the planning and execution of required warrants.
    • Establish the design format for quarterly and annually reconciliation measures and reporting.
    • Remove obstacles that interfere with reaching objectives and handle performance problems.

    • Develop, articulate, and lead the execution of the design parameters,
    • Plan, coordinate the quarterly and annual warrants in conjunction with the group competent persons.
    • Plan, coordinate ad hoc interventions in conjunction with the group competent persons.
    • Create industry, and professional body networks.
    • Timely and efficient risk reporting and tracking of measures.

    • Successful execution of corrective measures
    • Resources and reserves are validated and complaint
    • Reconciliation is correctly measured, tracked, and reported.
