    Senior Manager - Digital Enterprise Architecture.Technology Information

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    STRATEGIC INPUT

    • Develop goals, strategies, and plans needed to achieve the portfolio’s vision and build the capabilities to enable optimal delivery with input from relevant stakeholders 
    • Align planning against the strategic intent of the company  with agreed business outcomes within the portfolio, relevant IT Architecture Enterprise principles, key approved decisions and enterprise wide programs. 
    • Recommend strategic business opportunities to deliver medium to long-term benefit and growth to the organisation and its customers. 
    • Influence the technology roadmap defined by Group Technology 
    • Design and implement frameworks to support acquisition and dissemination of data from/to external sources based on the needs of the organisation 
    • Investigate strategic IT trends (including initiating and executing relevant proof of concepts) and provides feedback regarding the impact and alignment required. 
    • Conduct strategic analysis of MTN system strategies to ensure that the strategic technological direction aligns and supports MTN Group objectives.
    • Translate the strategic vision into operational requirements and drive the fulfilment of these technical requirements.

    BUSINESS ARCHITECTURE

    • Oversees the definition of the As-Is and Target IT Architectures across portfolios and coordinates the work to achieve and maintain these architectures by well documented and communicated roadmaps. 
    • Provide guidance to programs or large/complex projects via consulting with domain architects and peers involved in implementation projects. Provide guidance to small and medium projects or sub projects within larger projects of moderate complexity. 
    • Integrate enterprise, business, technology and solution architectures to deliver towards the agreed strategic outcomes.
    • Drive development of a systems architecture that describes the complete set of components and interfaces that make up IS application solutions to specified business requirements in a large, complex organisation.
    • Analyze technology industry and market trends and determine potential impact upon the business services and processes
    • Implementation of an Enterprise Solution Architecture based on business requirements and information technology strategies and trends
    • Improve and refine Enterprise Architectures with regards to additional frameworks and strategies required to improve the IT landscape
    • Design and participate in the implementation of an enterprise architecture based on business requirements and information technology strategies and trends.
    • Drive design of technology solution architectures with a 2 to 5 year horizon. Focus for both converging IT, Telco technologies and future ICT requirements
    • Documents the underlying business architecture and conducts feasibility studies, business cases, risk assessments, writes proposals, and creates functional requirements for new applications and major changes to existing applications.
    • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with Vendors to ensure the enablement of MTN Strategy
    • Ensure all System licensing is tracked making sure that MTN is not paying for licensing that is not used.
    • Understand the capabilities of all of our licensed software
    • Work with group on confirming software assets utilization and future purchases 

    SOLUTION DELIVERY

    • Work with Business analysis team to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for the improved uses of information technology and related solutions and applications.
    • Lead projects from a technical perspective and take lead accountability for design and delivery of design for cross functional projects
    • Ensure the team provide the cost estimates for projects based on architecture and design.
    • Consult with infrastructure development projects to fit infrastructure to architecture and identify when it is necessary to modify the technical  architecture to accommodate infrastructure needs
    • Evaluate new technologies and products to determine feasibility and desirability of incorporating their capabilities into the Company’s IS systems
    • Provide consultancy to process and business analysts at a project level on application, data, security, infrastructure, testing and operational designs through interactions with other MTN architects, applications and operations subject matter experts. 
    • Provide high level analysis and design reviews to other teams to avoid duplication efforts in solving the same application problems within 
    • different products within MTN
    • Collaborate with applications and operations teams to define the strategic vision, future direction and technology plans for the GSM and ICT business
    • Provide a quick reaction task force to attend to major IT incidents with a view to improving on systems design and stability
    • Develop and maintain project based solution architectures that meet business and IT requirements. These include functionality, processes, data, major products to be used, application interfaces internally and external to MTN.
    • Partner with business leaders, IS senior management, and peer-level managers to assess the technological cost and impact of recommended changes, help clarify priorities, and coordinate cross-organizational consortia where common needs have been identified.
    • Assess risks and the effects of specific requirements on other business processes and system priorities to ensure technologies are aligned with business strategic objectives
    • Assume accountability of defined services across multiple system domains
    • Responsible for the systematic and methodical investigation, analysis and documentation of all or part of a business area in terms of business functions and processes, and the information they use across applications. 
    • Responsible for architectural and technical impact analysis to identify all affected interfaces by new systems or change to existing systems. Identifies and examines business needs and determines timely and effective solutions to business functions and processes. 
    • Identify, interpret and guide future development by using the appropriate technology to provide solutions using the available technologies
    • Ensure that Living System Logical Architecture Documentation is updated with each project, showing functional architecture, use cases, functional logic and that  quality is determined by whether an alternative vendor could use it to reproduce a systems functioning with least 95% level of accuracy
    • Ensure that Living System Snapshot, Roadmap and Project History Documentation is updates quarterly covering capacity, utilisation, functional overview, project history, project roadmap and costing

    For each project the following must take place:

    The creation of a requirements specification to the vendor(s) in question the purpose of which is to

    • To impart an understanding of the problem space
    • To provide the business and product objectives of the project
    • An understanding of where the product and target system are in the context of fulfilling the business objectives
    • To provide detailed and specific instruction to the reader in terms of what the target system or component thereof is required to achieve
    • To provide an understanding of the environmental and business constraints in achieving a solution to the requirements

    FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

    • Compile and manage Capex and Opex budgets relating to architectural activities
    • Support CAPEX submissions to ensure that funds are secured 
    • Assist in the forecasting, planning and development of the architectural budget and business plans for IS
    • Support the creation of business cases for initiatives and projects in functional areas
    • Ensure that all Senior team members are engaging in Vendor Relations and identify opportunities to manage costs and that vendors provide Quarterly reporting 
    • Ensure that all Senior team members are involved in Contract ownership and that they update a central location with information on what the vendor supplies and requirements on amendments needed (or on new contract) and help drive this with the IS Commercial team 
    • Ensure that all contract follow a fixed price model and that MTN IPR is protected

    Governance

    • Create and continuously review governing principles to guide information, technology, and solution decision making for the enterprise
    • Support Implementation of corporate governance and ensure adherence to it
    • Ensure that changes to the current environment are properly documented and tested before promoting into production. Post production changes should be documented and managed.
    • Support the prioritisation process to drive prioritisation of requirements and initiatives in functional areas to ensure timeous delivery of requirements
    • Support Revenue Assurance functions to understand issues and resolve any revenue issues or leakage
    • Support assessment of Portfolio maturity on an annual basis
    • Influence and implement aspects of data security policies
    • Key areas and critical processes must always have an up to date Policy, Process or Procedure in place such that Business risk is managed which also ensures that any ISO certifications can be maintained and ensure that the team can show evidence where these are being utilised in day to day execution of job functions
    • Ensure  Architecture team performs the necessary analysis, design, modelling and documentation tasks necessary to pass MTN IS governance forums
    • Create and continuously review governing principles to guide information, technology, and solution decision making for the enterprise.
    • Design and accountable for ongoing ownership of the Architecture blue print for MTNSA
    • Develop and maintain standards(coding, source code management, definitions, etc) that would be used be all areas

    Project Delivery

    • Develop and drive the execution of agreed projects 
    • Drive the implementation, tracking, monitoring and compliance of Projects
    • Contract management in line with Procurement Policies
    • Co-ordinate project reporting
    • Ensure effective implementation of the integrated project management model 
    • Risk management

    Business Analysis

    • Perform Business Analysis MTN SA Business Analysis in line with the methodology and guidelines
    • Identify ways to fine tune policies, processes and systems in line with changing work practices
    • Determine, document, and review requirements for projects within the scope of the value stream or impacting processes and systems 
    • Design, analyse and document workflow and make appropriate recommendations that will positively impact operational effectiveness
    • Identify Business Improvement and Optimisation opportunities that will result in improvement of process performance 
    • Ensure that benchmarking is conducted with other companies and organizations within and outside the industry. 
    • Construct business cases for initiations proposed by the business. Research and consider best practice, local conditions, trends, as well as competitor activity
    • Identify and implement innovative ways to use minimum resources to achieve maximum output
    • Provide business analysis input and / or solutions to business areas where services span BU’s
    • Continuously look at way to improve the process efficiency where alternative business approaches could result in IT performance increase or cost efficiencies
    • Understand the business domains processes and how these are translated into systems
    • Ensure there is alignment between the business process and the proposed IT solution

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Requirements  

    Education:

    • Minimum of 4 years tertiary qualification /Masters advantageous
    • Business analysis/architecture qualifications
    • Managerial courses will be an advantage
    • Architectural qualifications (ITIL, TOGAF, TMF, Zachman)
    • Fluent in English and language of country preferable

    Experience:

    • Manager track record of 5 years or more in technical experiences with at least 3 years in technical environment.
    • Worked across diverse cultures and geographies advantageous
