    Senior Analyst: Radiation Protection Nuclear Power Plant

    Job description

    To perform reviews and assessments, as assigned, based on an in-depth understanding of established legal, regulatory and organisational documents and processes and guides, in the area of Radiation Protection, Nuclear Waste Management, Decommissioning, Emergency Preparedness and Response and Transport Safety.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • NQF level 8 (Honours) in Natural Science or Engineering (Chemical or Nuclear)
    • Minimum of 6 years regulatory and/or professional industry experience
    • Experience within the nuclear industry (advantageous)

    Knowledge and experience related to:

    • Understanding of the relevant legislation governing the nuclear regulation industry in South Africa
    • Knowledge of the principles of and requirements for nuclear safety in Radiation Protection, Nuclear Waste Management, Decommissioning, Emergency Preparedness and Response and Transport Safety for nuclear power plants
    • Working knowledge of the current licensing bases (SAR, KSSR, OTS etc.) at a nuclear power plant

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Based on in-depth comprehension of established legal, regulatory and organisational documents, processes and guides required for assessment and review of technical submissions
    • Conduct assessments as assigned
    • Handle both simple and complex systems assessments
    • Provide input into the development of regulatory standards, practices and guides
    • Participate in national and international forums
    • Represent organisation in meetings with external stakeholders
    • Create input into the development of regulatory standards, practices and guides
    • Participate in other NNR work outside departmental as required e.g emergency exercise etc
    • Mentoring of employees and interns
    • Deputise for the manager on request
    • Performance of audits and inspections
