    Security Supervisor

    Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas

    • The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is a vibrant, diverse and dynamic university, rooted in the African continent with an increasing global reach.     • Campus Protection Services seeks a suitably qualified and experienced energetic individual that will drive Campus Protection section at the university and compliance with relevant environmental health and safety legislation.
    • Reporting to the Coordinator CPS, the successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient and effective supervision and execution of the daily security shift operations including normal hours, after hours and public holidays. This will involve overseeing all after hour events as well as performing post visits to ensure that the contracted security concern meets all UWC SLA requirements and identity and report any contraventions.

    The duties of the Security Supervisor will include the following:

    • Supervise, inspect and oversee entire on and off campus security functions of contract security personnel, university events, contractors on site etc.
    • Provide guidance, perform on the job training and conduct evaluations of security personnel when performing post visits
    • Evaluate, assess and analyse performance of security personnel in accordance with SLA, document or record incidents, non-compliance, findings and observations and submit a daily shift report before booking off duty to HOD CPS
    • Oversee the smooth running of general security and related services
    • Prepare relevant reports for performance and contract administration, management and governance as required

    Minimum Requirements

    • Matric
    • Diploma in Security Management or a post matric security qualification within the field of security management
    • PSIRA registration as a grade A
    • Necessary certificates for First Aid, Fire Prevention, Crisis Management and Health and Safety knowledge and experience
    • A valid driver’s lisence 08  (accident free license for at least 2 years)
    • A minimum of three years’ experience as a Security Supervisor preferably in the Education Sector
    • No criminal record and sound references
    • Sound knowledge of campus life and student behaviour would be advantageous Must be able to work shifts
    • Must be able to work shifts
    • Experience in supervisory of staff compliment including on job training  
    • Fair knowledge of Labour relations
    • A good knowledge of access control or any other security electronic system.

    Skills Requirements:

    • Be customer focused with a smart presentable appearance and willingness to uphold the CPS customer service approach
    • oven supervisory experience within the security industry or similar industry including enforcing an SLA and adjusting duty rosters to meet shortfalls in staffing levels
    • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team and build strong,trust based relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels
    • Good writing skills, including writing procedures, drafting reports, preparing business cases etc.
    • Sound judgement and decision making skills, a positive and ‘hands on’ problem solving approach, ability to remain calm under pressure and take control of incidents
    • Basic IT skills with a working knowledge of the range of MS Office packages and knowledge of electronic security systems and electronic software packages
    • Articulate and effective two way (listening and speaking) communication skills
    • A sound working knowledge of security, including incident investigations and securing of crime scenes, safety, fire and events best practice and legislation affecting the security role
