    Regional Senior Trainer

    Key duties and responsibilities

    • Overall support towards planning, development and implementation of the project.
    • Lead with the development and/or adaptation of new training material and provide support to the GESI specialist.
    • Lead in organising and conducting online/field training and mentoring.
    • Coordinate capacity-building efforts and provide assistance and advice on using digital media and Community mobilisation strategies working with the GESI specialist. 
    • Lead and coordinate the provision and distribution of project materials.
    • Field support to partners
    • Attend and contribute to partners meetings.
    • Contribute to and undertake research to support the project.
    • Perform periodic desktop research on different themes and topics assigned by the GESI Specialist
    • Provide a summary of key findings.
    • Conduct training for partner organisations and in-country partners on gender norms transformation. 
    • Conduct training for partner organisations and in-country partners on Technology Facilitated GBV /GESI approaches. 
    • Assist with curriculum development and reviewing of activities.
    • Develop workshop programmes in conjunction with the programme/GESI specialist.
    • Ensure that workshop materials and supporting documents, i.e. handouts are in place.
    • Collect workshop materials that will inform the writing of monthly field reports.
    • Write and submit workshop reports timeously.
    • Support end project review processes. 
    • Assist with reviewing and collating project documents and reports in preparation for the mid-term project review processes.
    • Provide any logistical support with regards to hosting and organising meetings
    • Provide a summary of the activities that took place from the previous quarter/semester.
    • Attend and participate in deep-dive sessions (including bi-weekly partners meeting).
    • Contribute to the development of donor reports. 
    • Assist with documenting experiences and lessons learned from the field and provide a summary of key results (Significant stories of change).
    • Lead in writing field-based reports.
    • Supporting other International Program Unit activities
    • Support the development of the MenEngage Africa (MEA) network within Africa and outside, by creating country-based linkages with MEA country-based programmes, and SIMA and Transform countries, including undertaking research, running training courses, and developing tools.
    • Attend Sonke/MenEngage Africa meetings, where appropriate and requested.

    Administration 

    • Ensure that you are familiar with HR, Finance, Administration and Procurement procedures and ensure that these are consistently adhered to.
    • Ensure requisitions, quotations and payments are prepared in line with the payments processes.

    General

    • Facilitate a smooth exit from the target area at the end of the project period.
    • Other related tasks as assigned.
    • Attending all staff meetings, staff retreats, staff trainings and international meetings as required.

    Qualifications and experience

    • Recognised university diploma/degree in relevant subject area or equivalent experience. 
    • Fluency in English. The ability to speak French and at least one local language from the African region as well as Arabic would be an advantage.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications; i.e. Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and custom on-line applications.
    • Recognised commitment to promoting gender equality, human rights and social justice. 
    • 3-5 years’ work experience in the gender field; experience in the African region and internationally.
    • Familiarity with gender transformative work with men and boys, including primary social change strategies, key organisations and networks in the region, key research findings and the associated evidence base for the work is an advantage. 
    • Experience in training of organisations on gender equality. 
    • Familiarity with the Western, Southern, Eastern African region and the Middle East and North Africa region, and on policies and programmes relating to gender equality and gender-based violence engaging men and boys an advantage. 
    • Excellent written and spoken English skills. Ability to write in French and other African languages – as well as Arabic – an advantage.

    Desired Interpersonal Skills

    • Must be a persuasive communicator with excellent writing, editing and public speaking skills in English and Sesotho.
    • Proven ability to excel as a collegial member of a diverse team and in working in a multicultural cross-continental working environment.
    • Excellent diplomatic and problem-solving abilities, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to engage in and contribute to on-going socio-political debates.
    • Must be discrete and able to handle confidential matters with integrity.
    • Must have well-developed emotional intelligence, including self-awareness, self-management, and empathy.
    • Attention to detail and the ability to prioritise work and manage deadlines.
