Production Specialist M1M2 (Middelburg) at Samancor Chrome

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

• To be the continuous improvement driver of the Metallurgical process through reporting on and analysing production performance, making recommendations and implementing projects in a safe manner

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT, RISK, QUALITY AND COMMUNITY

• Identify and assess level of continuous risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
• Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
• Manage SHEQ compliance within the Process through effective use of the Toolbox
• Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status

PEOPLE

Manage the Section:

• Ensure an enabling climate/culture
• Manage labour stability by minimising labour turnover:
  • Labour compliment in line with budget
  • Achieve HDSA/ Female targets for the section
• Manage performance against set targets and competencies:
  • Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan
• Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly)
• Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
• Chair disciplinary hearings when required
• Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
• Conduct recruitment interviews

CUSTOMERS

• Achieve process quality and budget
• Ensure Customer Satisfaction

BUSINESS PROCESSES

• Update Process Strategy
• Implement Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) findings
• Achieve process budget
• Update SAP Production Master Data
• Report process measures
• Implement improvement projects
• Management of projects, which includes control of project budgets and delivery of results and recommendations on time
• Ensuring proper integration of improvement projects
• Training and coaching of subordinates
• Update and review SOPs when required
• Research, analysis and development for continuous improvement of metallurgical processes at the furnaces. This includes technical report writing, mass and energy balance development and presentation of results. 
• Act in a higher level as and when required
• Perform standby
• Work overtime as and when required

• Control and management of continuous improvement of metallurgical processes at the furnaces through operational excellence

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Chemical/Metallurgical B.Eng./BSc. (Eng.) Degree or National Diploma with specialization in Chemistry or Metallurgy
• 4 years’ relevant C-Upper experience gained in metallurgical operations (BOF, Steel Plant, DC furnaces, Sub Arc Furnaces)
• Computer Literacy (MS Office)

ADVANTAGEOUS

• SAP and COUPA experience
• Driver’s License (minimum B/ Code 8)
• Minimum of one year experience in a Supervisory or Management capacity
• A recognized managerial qualification

• Samancor Chrome Systems (IMS, EBMS, Chromedoc, MES, Coupa, SAP)

 Knowledge:

• Ferroalloy industry experience
• Demonstrate an understanding of Production Specialist competencies within M1M2 plant
• Understanding of Metallurgy and Mass Balances
• Knowledge of Refractories will be beneficial
• Knowledge of comminution principles and theory will be beneficial
• Knowledge of business administration including costs and finance
