    Princ Spec Regulatory Landscape

    Short Description / Purpose of Job:

    Shape, influence and execute on the advocacy messaging in the interest of Sasol Energy Business and regional / local economy.

    Drive early engagement with Policy Makers regarding economic policy development, aimed at optimising policy development horizons.

    Provide continuous factual and practical insights to increase the likelihood of policy acceptance.

    Be the bridge between concept Advocacy and specific engagement with Policy Makers when Legislation and Regulation is crafted in reaction to developed Policy.

     

    Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

    “Socialising” the policy and regulations perspective and agenda in support of Sasol’s Strategic direction with Policy Makers, Regulators, commercial and social stakeholders

    Pro-actively shape the regulatory dialogue to ensure optimal trade-offs, timelines, doable commitments within a sustainable business climate.

    Inform internal decision making to ensure that the Energy business responds appropriately to policy and regulatory challenges and opportunities.

    Lead external facing engagement in support of emerging strategy and delivery management in the policy and regulation context.

    Communicate Sasol’s strategy to all levels of Government, with particular emphasis on DDG and above.

    To create capability in Energy to translate particularly “Engine 2” strategy into Advocacy Messaging with the goal of “socialising” new technologies and/or significant changes in Sasol Manufacturing and marketing direction to Policy Makers, Regulators, commercial and Social stakeholders to “prepare the ground for seeds”.

    Key role player in the Sasol’s execution of Just Transition and energy transition, supported by a strong technical understanding of proposed Energy Just Transition paths.

    Creation of a n Energy Transition Roadmap to support and inform Energy Transition.

    Become the go to resource for Policy Makers very early in the economic policy development to assist in the shortening of policy development horizons and provide factual and  practical insight to increase the likelihood of policy acceptance – typically pre-White Paper process.

    Build relationships with key stakeholders/enablers to  directionally communicate the kind new or adjusted Regulatory Framework is required to support/enable Strategy implementation in the interest of Sasol and the regional/local economy.

    Be the bridge between concept Advocacy and specific engagement with Policy Makers when Legislation and Regulation is crafted in reaction to developed Policy ().

    Influencing and being supported by expertise from the Strategy and strategic initiative teams.

    Influence a policy enabled context for Strategy execution based on the understanding of the evolving international de-carbonisation landscape to support .

    Translate Strategy to demonstrate benefit to inter alia Economic Growth, Employment, Re-industrialisation, Climate Change gains and import substitution.

    Maintain insights into policy and regulatory evaluation and developments and an in-depth knowledge of the existing policy and regulatory environment which impacts the Energy Business (all relevant local, national and international jurisdictions) – including an understanding of the fundamental drivers of policy and regulations.

    Utilising societal, government and other external stakeholder models to pre-empt shifts in the public sector and regulatory environment and identify, estimate and prioritise its impact on the organisation.

    Interaction on the political level, and crafting of messaging for senior executives when engaging Government leaders and Politicians

    Coordinate the Energy Business' position on any emerging policy and regulations and ensure that this message is delivered to key stakeholders/opinion leaders.

    Develop and maintain effective relationships with regulation and policy stakeholders and influencers including multiple levels within government, critical policy makers and other significant contributors incl. labour organisations, NGOs, think tanks.

    Develop and execute specific engagement strategies for key individual public sector stakeholders (all relevant local, national and international jurisdictions for the Energy Business) together with Energy Business Services.

    Influence policy decisions design and development within the company’s energy BU and contribute to or prevent changes in public policy by guiding the writing and collection of comments to green papers, white papers, proposed policy etc.

    Early engagement and follow through to provide a Sasol perspective and response to all national and local policies (primary and secondary) that have a material impact on Sasol group’s operations.

    Guide the input of reports and updates on country-specific socio-economic and regulatory conditions from the international energy’s regional public affairs representatives.

    Monitor and review the appropriateness and alignment of messaging with corporate requirements and objectives. Guarantee the clarity, accuracy and consistency of all materials and messaging to policy stakeholders

     

    Formal Education:

    4-year Degree /University Bachelor's Hons /B-Accounting Hons /Engineering /Masters/PhD

    12 years relevant experience
