    Pharmacy Informatics Lead

    MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
    Provide pharmacy guidance, leadership and technical assistance to pharmacists, doctors and other clinical staff for the design, implementation, maintenance and optimisation of an Electronic Health Record system and other digital health applications, to deliver safe and high quality patient care within the division. This role’s main focus will be on pharmacy related modules and integration with the bigger digital health ecosystem.
    This person, in conjunction with Health Informatics team, is responsible for assuring the successful utilisation of information technology, primarily the EHR-system, to optimise patient care delivery in collaboration with nurses, doctors and other clinical staff.
     

    KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

    • Assist with the identification and procurement of an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system, as well as other IT related clinical applications, that meet the pharmacy end user as well as Mediclinic’s clinical and patient care needs 
    • Facilitate the configuration, planning and implementation of the digital health systems (incl. EHR) and processes, within the pharmacy domain, throughout the division
    • Ensure effective utilisation and optimisation of a digital health systems (incl. EHR) 
    • Ensure compliance to legal and regulatory requirements
    • Build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships to ensure effective implementation and optimal utilisation of digital health systems (incl. EHR)

    REQUIRED EDUCATION

    • Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.) qualification 

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

    • More than 5 years’ clinical experience in pharmacy operations
    • At least 3 years’ experience in Healthcare management 
    • Experience using an electronic medication dispensing, prescribing or administration system 

    OR

    • Experience working with on a comprehensive Electronic Health Record/Electronic Medical Record

    REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    • Clinical data analytics and reporting
    • Clinical governance and risk management
    • Health care information management principles
    • IT infrastructure components and integration standards
    • Knowledge of redesigning clinical processes to improve efficiency and patient care
    • Proficiency in the protocols, regulatory requirements and emerging trends around the management of electronic health records
    • Project management skills, tools and methodologies
    • Quality management systems
    • Systems thinking with understanding of the interactions and inter-dependencies of business information and events on the operational level
    • Pharmacy related informatics with specific reference to Computerised Physician Order Entry (CPOE) and clinical decision support (CDS)
    • In-depth knowledge of South African pharmacy and health care practices, clinical workflor, terminology and clinical guidelines in relation to health informatics
    • Data governance, standards and regulations affecting the practice of pharmacy
