    Manager, Stakeholder Affair

    Job Advert Summary

    PURPOSE:

    • To lead, direct and manage the Business Unit stakeholder affairs department.
    • To lead and direct the Business Units (BU’s) stakeholder management/engagement/relations and issue management activities as the stakeholder engagement process owner.
    • To engage stakeholders affected by or influencing the Company and the BU operations, strategic priorities etc.
    • To develop and maintain strong relationships with relevant stakeholders to ensure the Company’s and BU’s strategic objectives are met.

    Accountable for the BU’s community engagement and development programme including strategic plan, implementation, relevant legal/regulatory compliance, reporting, community engagement, risk management, audit findings, project development/execution, application of the Company’s community development discipline guidelines and service provider management.

    To take accountability for the BU’s communication activities to internal/external stakeholders and brand management.

    Minimum Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    •    B Degree (Hons) (Relevant) (Essential/Minimum)
    •    Certificate in Stakeholder Management (Essential/Minimum)
    •    Management Development Programme (Essential/Minimum)

    EXPERIENCE: 

    Relevant experience and exceptionally skilled in management (people, department, financial), stakeholder engagement, strategic and operational community development, communication, project management and business management. Relevant experience in community development including practical/hands-on project management and implementation, budget management and stakeholder engagement. Business development and enterprise development experience. 8 years Essential/Minimum Operational

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Communication Services  

    • Oversee planning; execution and quality of Business Unit (BU) communication initiatives
    • Depending on scope; complexity; impact; audience of communication initiative, participate as specialist advisor to team or project manager
    • Depending on scope, manage communication initiatives' budgets
    • Manage external and brand communication projects
    • Oversee the communication of corporate announcements internally and externally
    • Oversee management of BU communication channels and BU content for group internal/external channels, including quality
    • Provide media relations service and support BU management when engaging media
    • Arrange and facilitate media interviews including preparing spokespersons for media interactions
    • Serve as primary contact for local media including responding to Queries or requests for information etc.
    • Liaise with corporate communication team regarding local media interactions to ensure alignment
    • Draft external communication written content including news releases, speeches and articles as required
    • Manage BU crisis communication
    • Assess and recommend BU sponsorships, advertising, brand-building opportunities etc.
    • Oversee brand management/application at BU
    • Community Development

    • Compliance, Governance and Assurance
    • Provide assurance regarding the application of stakeholder affairs standards, processes and practices
    • Ensure all initiatives are delivered in accordance with the Group, stakeholder affairs, corporate communications, stakeholder management and community development policies, guidelines, procedures, strategy etc.
    • Adhere to sound corporate governance principles and address discrepancies
    • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure alignment regarding agenda/priorities, messages, communication/engagement activities, community development initiatives etc.
    • Ensure BU adheres to all relevant community development-related legislation/regulations and advise BU on potential impact of changes in the regulatory environment that will affect the Company/BU and revise plans accordingly

    Functional Excellence   

    • Utilise and entrench stakeholder affairs (community development, stakeholder management, corporate communication) policies, standards, criteria, guidelines, procedures, practices, processes, standards, tools and benchmarks etc.
    • Provide inputs to development of these as required.
    • Embed practices at BU to ensure smooth day-to-day operation of BU stakeholder affairs activities and alignment to Group methodologies.
    • Support and/or train BU stakeholder affairs team to build stakeholder affairs capabilities
    • Implement stakeholder affairs best practices and excellence at BU, including development of social consciousness amongst management and employees
    • Provide local insight to corporate stakeholder affairs
    • Guide stakeholder affairs activities at BU, including guidance to management to ensure alignment to stakeholder affairs discipline governance and compliance to relevant regulations/legislation
    • Provide local insight to corporate stakeholder affairs team
    • Establish stakeholder affairs-related cross-discipline forums at BU to ensure alignment/integration/coordination and execution
    • Participate in internal group forums as required
    • Align with group corporate communication, community development and stakeholder management approaches, frameworks etc.

    Functional Management  

     Financial management: Prepare/manage BU stakeholder affairs budget, including management of discretionary donations' budget

    Strategic planning: Develop, with involvement of all relevant BU departments, the BU's stakeholder affairs strategic plan, including community development (LED/SED/ED), stakeholder engagement, stakeholder relationship and issue management and communication, aligned to the Group’s strategic priorities, the group stakeholder affairs strategic plans and targets as well as SLP/BBBEE/Mining Charter legislation, regulations, commitments and community needs. Align departmental activities/resources to plan. Establish measurable departmental targets, aligned to BU/group targets. Provide inputs to group stakeholder affairs strategy, group corporate communication and group community development strategic plans as requiredPerformance management: Ensure BU stakeholder affairs strategic plan is implemented. Track and report on execution. Coordinate BU stakeholder affairs departmental and related BU cross-discipline activities. Set performance standards and ensure team's deliverables are consistently at a high standard

    Continuous improvement and departmental change: Identify, advocate for and lead departmental improvement and change. Create culture of continuous improvement and agility in department

    Communicate and engage with departmental and functional employees’ including at corporate, BU management and cross-functionally at BU/corporate

    Governance: Ensure department adheres to Group governance. Entrench a culture of discipline

    People Management

    Risk Management    

    • Support and manage risk management processes and systems for BU stakeholder affairs. Identify and manage BU stakeholder affairs risks
    • Manage risks through the Company’s risk management system and ensure alignment/co-ordination of BU stakeholder affairs risk management with group enterprise risk management framework
    • Proactively identify, anticipate, analyse and flag key stakeholders' risks and issues
    • Coordinate with relevant BU management representative to develop and implement actions to address and respond to stakeholder risks/issues/impacts and provide feedback to stakeholders.
    • Utilise stakeholder engagement as a mechanism to identify and prevent issues from escalating

    Safe and Healthy Work Environment

    • Maintain and ensure a healthy environment, safe operations practices and ensure compliance with all applicable Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) policies/procedures in line with set standards
    • Encourage a culture that focuses on safety in all operations
    • Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management

    Supplier Management  

    • Identify and contract SED/ED service providers required for BU- specific projects, manage provision of services including costs, delivery, quality etc.
    • Address performance issues to ensure seamless service delivery and adherence to Group governance
    • Oversee specialist community development's management of service providers, including track performance to ensure deliverables are on schedule and in/under budget
