    Manager, Logistics

    Job Advert Summary

    PURPOSE:

    • To develop and execute logistical strategies and plans to integrate and optimise the flow of commodities to various customers.
    • To ensure the Company receive maximum allocation of rail capacity and that all rail capacity is utilised optimally.
    • To secure the procurement of logistics services and capacity of the right quality, at the most favourable price and conditions, and at the right time.

    MAJOR CHALLENGES:

    • The variation in logistics plans (road, rail and seaborne) requires continuous engagement with service providers and stakeholders to find timeous commercial solutions to practical logistics needs.

    Minimum Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    •    B Eng (Relevant) (Essential/Minimum or)
    •    BCom (Hons) (Relevant) (Essential/Minimum)
    •    Management Development Programme (Essential/Minimum)

    EXPERIENCE: 

    •  8-10 years Relevant marketing and commercial logistic experience within a production environment.   (Essential/Minimum)    Operational

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Business Process and Development

    • Refer to the attached job Advert for more details 
    • Compliance, Governance and Assurance    
    • Ensure all commercial activities are executed within supply chain management governance and delegated authorities.
    • Ensure the Group’s procurement targets with Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) companies are reached.
    • Ensure employment equity targets are met.
    • Customer and Client Relationship Management  
    • Manage and maintain customer relationships effectively.
    • Lead and create high performance teams by encouraging collaboration internally and across company borders.
    • Liaise with stakeholders to determine level of current and forthcoming project activities.
    • Implement customer and supplier performance management.
    • Represent the Company by networking locally and internationally.
    • Develop and implement Service Level Agreements (SLA's) between logistics and service providers and customers.
    • Assume responsibility for the contracting of logistic service providers (issue RFQ's receipt and evaluation of tenders, contract administration etc.).
    • Negotiate with recommended suppliers, applicable logistics personnel and line management to ensure equitable agreements.
    • Ensure supplier base is maintained and evaluate customer satisfaction.
    • Financial Performance
    • Develop and implement a total cost of ownership (TCO) model to enable the measurement of each logistic flow and logistic service provider.
    • Manage expenses, assets and financial risk effectively.
    • Maximise income and profitability of current assets and resources according to best practice and within given mandate/governance.
    • Ensure annual targets for TCO reduction are achieved by exploiting market conditions, optimising service specifications and/or product/ supplier consolidations.
    • Functional Excellence  
    •  Develop and maintain marketing & logistics' policies, standards, guidelines, procedures, end-to-end processes, tools, templates etc. and enforce group-wide adherence to these.
    • Standardise, simplify and speed-up functional processes and eliminate duplication/bureaucracy.
    • Develop and apply functional best practices, promote sharing of best practices/knowledge.
    • Drive and execute functional excellence initiatives.
    • Oversee and monitor functional activities at operations.
    • Establish functional/cross-functional forums, Communities of Practice (COP’s) etc. to ensure functional alignment.
    • Effectively manage matrix reporting.
    • Identify and manage critical functional risks through appropriate mitigation plans/actions.

    Functional Management  

    •  Financial management: Prepare and manage marketing and logistics' budget and forecast costs.
    • Performance management: Ensure marketing & logistics' strategic plan is implemented through disciplined execution processes, track implementation, and provide feedback to relevant manager. Coordinate functional/cross-functional activities to ensure strategic alignment. Set and maintain high performance standards. Track and drive functional targets/goals and hold staff responsible for achieving results. Remove obstacles that interfere with performance and manage performance problems.
    • Continuous improvement and functional change: Identify, advocate for and lead marketing logistics’ improvement and change. Create culture of continuous improvement and change agility in function.
    • Engagement/communication: Communicate and engage with marketing & logistics' employees, including virtuals. Engage with executives, operations and cross-functionally with peers. Represent marketing & logistics' and Company externally, as required.
    • Governance: Ensure marketing & logistics adheres to governance, policies, standards, statutory and legal compliance. Entrench a culture of discipline.

    Logistics Management  

    • Manage the total flow management of all commodities of the Company, exports, imports, domestic in- and outbound.
    • Ensure the international portion of the supply chain is fully optimised, managed and controlled, while taking inland flow requirements into account.
    • Integrate internal rail operations into total flow design, management and control to ensure that an effective interface is achieved between service providers, customers and mines.
    • Ensure contract specifications are within the marketing strategy, budget and corporate governance.
    • Negotiate and manage contracts to ensure effective product storage and shipment.
    • Maintain good customer relations by attending to enquiries and resolving complaints to their satisfaction.

    People Management  

    •  Staffing: Select, appoint and on-board marketing & logistics' staff in consultation with manager, marketing and logistics.
    • Performance management: Clarify roles/responsibilities and expectations. Define individual performance standards, monitor and measure performance, reward and recognise high performance. Apply consistent performance and consequence management and take prompt action against non-performance.
    • Talent development: Actively manage talent through regular assessment of employees’ strengths, development needs and development progress. Provide ongoing mentoring, coaching, development and feedback to employees. Manage functional talent pipeline and succession planning process. Promote culture of continuous learning. Encourage and empower team to make decisions.
    • Culture/functional climate: Embody, translate and entrench Group culture and values in function, address behaviours that undermine values. Foster effective teamwork and unity. Manage functional climate in which diversity is appreciated, high performance thrives, people are involved, energised, committed, motivated and recognised. Demonstrate and encourage collaboration including cross-functionally and create culture of collaboration. Create an environment in which people are inspired to perform and a high-performance culture.
    • Change leadership: Provide direction, guidance and support to people having to adapt to change, keep them committed throughout. Actively support, advocate for and embrace functional/organisational change and reinforce/role model the change. Address resistance, beliefs, mind-sets, behaviours and emotions to help people adapt to change.
    • Communication/engagement: Encourage open expression of ideas/opinions and foster dialogue. Seek out different opinions. Inform people of decisions, changes and other relevant information. Proactively address conflicts and initiate difficult conversations.
    • Team development: Develop effective and high performing team including shared team purpose, principles, goals and effective team player capabilities. Create an environment of accountability and trust.

    • Adhere to all health/safety practices and promote good housekeeping on an ongoing basis.

    • Comply with Safety Health Environment and Community (SHEC)/technical requirements.
