Linux System Administrator Ref. IT/171/0724 at Stellenbosch University

Duties

• Installation, daily maintenance and monitoring of computer systems and servers at Stellenbosch University. (This position may from time to time require after hours system maintenance).

Job Requirements

• National Senior Certificate, with five years' relevant experience, OR a relevant IT degree/diploma, OR a relevant IT certificate with three years' relevant experience;
• Good knowledge of Linux as operating system;
• The ability to innovatively solve problems;
• Proven analytical skills;
• A high level of accuracy;
• Sound verbal and written communication skills in Afrikaans or English;
• The ability to work both in a team as well as independently;
• Outstanding interpersonal skills.

Candidates may be subjected to aptitude, psychometric and proficiency tests.(The incumbent will be required to accept and sign the SU system administrator code of conduct.)

Recommendation

• Any other IT related industry qualifications;
• Experience with system security;
• Experience with cloud-based capabilities;
• Experience with virtualisation technologies.
