    Lecturer: Critical and Analytical Thinking (M000534)

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    For the appointed candidate to teach the Critical and Analytical Thinking modules (ICAT111, IURX113, ECAT121 and IURX123) at the Mahikeng Campus, North-West University.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Teaching and Learning, including Higher Degree Supervision:

    • Take responsibility for a full lecturing load (teaching and assessment).
    • Contribute towards the development of learning materials and the setting of tasks and assessments.

    OHS (Occupational Health and Safety):

    • Co-operate with management, OHS officials, and colleagues to help everyone meet their legal requirements, while upholding and maintaining general occupational health and safety standards and practices.

    Personal Research, Innovation and/or Creative Outputs:

    • It is mandatory to register for PhD studies within the first year of employment.
    • Contribute towards the research output of the School of Languages.

    Academic Leadership, Management and Administration:

    • Fulfil all administrative duties in the service of the university, as required of and related to the position within the subject group and as opportunities arise (e.g. at School/Faculty level).

    Social Responsiveness and Industry Involvement:

    • The successful candidate is expected to be actively involved in community engagement projects of the School of Languages and the University, contributing to its welfare.

    Minimum requirements

    • A Master of Arts (NQF level 9) in Linguistics or related fields.
    • A minimum of two (2) years’ lecturing experience in Critical Thinking at a tertiary institution.

    KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Computer Literate - Applicants should be knowledgeable in the use of technology and sound knowledge of the T&L platform, eFundi, would be an advantage (or any equivalent platform, e.g. Blackboard).
    • Fluency in English.
    • Ability to work as part of a larger teaching team.
    • Ability to engage with student input and feedback.
    • Valuing student support and development.
    • Knowledge of basic text analysis would be an advantage.

    KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Applicants should be critical thinkers themselves who can critically engage with students on a wide range of topics.
