    Lead Operator - Maintenance Supervisor

    Job Description

    • Responsible for execution of facility maintenance according to the Terminal Manager or Facility Engineer instructions.  Executes all maintenance work and takes preventive and corrective actions, following SHEQ procedures for rotary equipment, tankage and general maintenance, meters or gauging equipment calibrations on equipment.  Regular check, fire installation systems, fire extinguishers, oil spill equipment, etc. provides electrical maintenance.
    • Responsible for execution of facility maintenance according to the Terminal Manager, Maintenance Supervisor or Facility Engineer instructions.  Executes all maintenance work and takes preventive and corrective actions, following SHEQ procedures for rotary equipment, tank cleaning and general maintenance, meters or gauging equipment calibrations on equipment.  Regular checks of fire systems, fire extinguishers, oil spill equipment, etc. Oversee electrical maintenance conducted by electricians and assist with electrical maintenance when and if required. 

    The following maintenance work is required:

    • Repairing equipment breakdowns which require urgent & focussed attention
    • Preventative maintenance entails undertaking regular planned inspection, testing and maintenance as per schedule
    • Carrying out routine servicing & regular inspection of plant, machinery & equipment
    • Prevent costly plant, machinery & equipment breakdowns.
    • Ensure housekeeping at bulk storage area, especially tank farm, pumps and motors on and around the pump slab, etc. is maintained at the prescribed standard. Ensure that the pipeline distribution network meets integrity requirements, inclusive of pressure testing and cathodic protection, and that all results are maintained. Oversee work performed by nominated and approved contractors in accordance with Astron Energy standards, and maintenance specifications.
    • Recommend budget items, contributing to the development of an annual maintenance budget.  Recommend upgrades, overhauls, and other changes to systems and equipment.
    • Accountable for Service Delivery Reliability of Equipment to meet customer needs. The target is 100% terminal reliability and availability.
    • As required, executes operational, SHEQ activities per established priorities such as:   Product receipt, tank gauging, comply with SHEQ policies, standards and procedures. 
    • Actively participate in Safety Meetings, Stand Downs, Loss Prevention System Observations (LPOs) and Job Loss Analyses (JLAs).
    • Participate in incident or loss investigation, agreed on corrective actions and ensure timely completion thereof.
    • Actively participate in all scheduled training and utilize learned skills in the fulfilment of day-to-day activities. Provides coaching and supervision to contractors supporting terminal operations.

    Minimum Qualifications and Expertise required:-

    Professional Qualification and Certifications:

    • Snr Certificate with a Fitter & Turner certification, Mechanical and Maintenance background 
    • National Diploma: Mechanical Engineering preferred

    Work Experience:

    • 3yrs Practical / hands on maintenance in Logistic/Supply Chain terminal/depot and operations experience
    • Marine and pipeline operations
    • Specialist knowledge and maintenance requirements of the (rotating) pumping equipment, pipeline reticulation system, pressure equipment regulations, vehicle requirements and meter calibration requirements    
    • Petroleum Experience (Oil and Gas)

    Knowledge and skills:

    • Report Writing
    • Knowledge of conveyors, motors, pumps, piping, compressors, bulk storage tanks, valves and relief valves
    • Knowledge of HV, MV and LV electrical reticulation systems
    • Basic electrical engineering knowledge
    • Knowledge of fluids and thermodynamics
    • Knowledge of the OHSACT specifically GMR, EMR and PER
    • Self-motivated
    • Ability to work alone and in teams
    • Energetic
    • Attention to detail
    • Innovative
    • Ability to develop solutions
    • Knowledge of problem-solving techniques i.e. Fishbone, 5Why etc.
