    Inventory specialist

    Purpose of the Job

    Responsible for coordinating and controlling all activities, people, assets, technology and documentation related to the Inventory management activities within the warehouse operation and general housekeeping of warehousing areas. The Inventory Specialist is responsible for the for cycle counting KPI and Investigation of RCA. The position reports to the Inventory Supervisor.

    Key responsibilities include the following:

    • Coordinate and control cycle count programs and ensure consistency and accuracy in same and identify all operational problems in inventory.
    • Coordinate and maintain records of all variances according to establish procedures and ensure accuracy of all product transfers from one facility to other.
    • Ensure Root causes caused by late TO confirmations are visible so to be addressed.
    • Coordinate and monitor all procurement requests of facilities and ensure accuracy in all inbound inventory and maintain records for same.
    • Provide training to staff about inventory processes and adjustments if required.
    • Recommend material master updates and improvements.
    • Ensure that only authorised persons are allowed in the area.
    • Ensure that all documentation is secured and filed the same day.
    • Adhere to relevant warehouse and inventory management policies, processes, procedures and Optimise inventory to attain set inventory targets whilst minimizing stock-outs.
    • Continually review and analyze inventory movements and stock holding configurations.
    • Oversee inventory related master data creation and maintenance which includes amongst other things the creation, update and deletion of material and service masters, item classification MRP settings (MRP type, lot size, re-order points, lead times etc.) to ensure accuracy and relevance.
    • Manage stock counting team to ensure effective stock counting and reconciliation processes to ensure data integrity in the SAP system.
    • Plan and oversee stock counts (cycle and annual) to ensure accurate inventory levels are maintained at all times;
    • Responsible for stock variance investigations and motivation of stock adjustments.
    • Ensure adequate controls are in place to minimize stock variances.
    • Storage, Transportation and Housekeeping
    • Ensure compliance with safe storage and stacking procedures as well as legal and statutory regulations while stored, loading, off-loading or in transit areas.
    • Ensure that items are transported in a safe manner to relevant storage locations/plants and that material safety data sheets (MSDS) are available when transporting hazardous materials.
    • Take responsibility for the security of the building, stock, warehouse equipment and people;
    • Ensure that all physical controls, such as that, gates are kept closed, access to storage areas are controlled etc, are adhered to.
    • Adhere to relevant vehicle and materials handling policies and procedures.
    • Work with the Logistics, Procurement, Production, planning other stakeholders to ensure the end to-end effective and efficient functioning of the inventory management

    Requirements:

    • Grade 12
    • Code 8 drivers and forklift licenses.
    • Professional experience (1 - 2 years) in warehousing & inventory;
    • Diploma, preferably in logistics and/or materials management.
    • A relevant combination of formal (Supply Chain related) qualifications and additional specialized studies.
    • Membership of relevant professional body e.g. SAPICS, CIPS.
    • In depth knowledge of and experience in Production, inventory and warehouse management best practice principles;
    • Experience in coordinating teams;
    • Relevant ERP system experience, preferably SAP Materials Management.
