    Internal Client Services- Risk Independence Legal (RIL)- Assistant Manager

    Job Description
    Main Purpose of Job

    To succeed in this role, you must be a dynamic individual with highly developed interpersonal skills. In addition, you must possess the following:

    Strategic Impact

    Interrogates, clearly understands and communicates to team the agreed strategic objectives of both own Service Area and that of the client Service Line/s
    Manages the implementation of the strategic imperatives in line with service area strategy relating to:
    → Implementation of change initiatives within designated area/s

    • Manages quality and timeliness of day-to-day deliverables of team in area of expertise to client
    • Provides client management with sound professional advice and support across broad area of issues arising within area of expertise
    • Proactively identifies client service and technical issues and independently implement resolutions to address these
    • Participates in gathering of information for thought leadership process and share functional and industry knowledge and expertise with clients, colleagues and teams
    • Meets with team on a regular basis to provide updates from client and SL leadership and to get input from team

    • Manages day-to-day operations and delivery by team to clients
    • Guides and directs daily work of team members giving recognition as well as support as needed
    • Updates Senior Manager on status weekly or as directed
    • Manages day-to-day risk issues within the team and ensures any contraventions are rectified and addressed

    • Recruits, mentors and guides team members and shares expertise and knowledge with counselees on an ongoing basis
    • Identifies areas of development for team and institute plans to address these

    • Provides relevant recognition and encouragement to team and leads by example

    • Provides input into annual budget to superior for drafting of budget for Service Area
    • Manages expenditure within team and ensures time and expenses are submitted weekly

    Qualifications
    Desired Qualifications

    CA(SA) or equivalent

    Desired Experience

    • Knowledge of the applicable regulatory bodies (IFAC/SEC/PCAOB etc.) applicable to the audit environment would be an advantage.
    • Knowledge of relevant companies act requirements affecting audit environment. (Section 90(2))
    • Knowledge of risk and independence aspects affecting the audit environment would be an advantage.
    • Knowledge of relevant Deloitte Policy Manuals on Independence would be an advantage (if you are a Deloitte internal candidate)
    • Hands-on independence experience and a good understanding of independence in a professional services environment and the application of Independence management methodologies would be an advantage.
    • Quality management experience in a professional services environment.
    • Quality control monitoring experience in a professional audit services environment.
    • Project management experience - previous work experience in any of the following areas would be useful:
    • Business requirement specifications
    • System development
    • End-user testing
    • High computer literacy, with solid working experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Experience in the Microsoft Client Relationship Management (CRM) System would be an advantage
    • Managing teams

    Consultations

    • Conducting Independence consultations based on regulatory requirements i.e. IESBA, Companies Act, SEC, Deloitte Policy Manuals etc.
    • Provide guidance to Audit Teams with respect to Threats & Safeguards documentation
    • Managing / Monitoring Consultation system
    • Provide support to the DOI and Deputy DOI with consultations.
    • Review of Engagement Letter changes for Assurance
    • Provide Subject Matter Expert Training, both for internal teams as well as to other Service lines.
    • Roll-out of new independence requirements to the Firm.
    • Liaison with Africa Teams with respect to consultation system.
    • Develop, update, and maintain templates and processes and manuals.
    • Assist with independence processes around IPO’s and SPAC’s

    Personal Independence Inspection & Testing

    • Responsibility for conducting Independence Inspections on Leadership / Management employees within the firm.
    • Preparing quality feedback and reports with supporting schedules / documents.

    Global Independence Monitoring

    • Personal Independence monitoring though the Deloitte Global Independence Monitoring system (GIMS).

    GIMS Service Centre

    • Perform GIMS reviews on GIMS users
    • Provide support to Partners with respect to their GIMS accounts

    Independence Declarations

    • Update monitor and review of independence declarations.
    • Effective and efficient planning of annual independence process and adequately coordinating the roll out process firm wide and deliver good quality reports and timeously reporting

    Employee Training & Learning

    • Update, develop and conduct independence learning for staff and new direct entry partners/directors and presentations to relevant parties and to ensure that learning programs are rolled out to partners/managers and staff.

    DESC Administration

    • Update of Group Structures on DESC
    • Rolling out and managing Verification projects and or other projects required by Global Independence.
    • Performance of materiality calculations
    • Monitoring of Member Firm Loans

    Service Requests Monitoring (SRM)

    • Monitoring of service requests to provide non-audit services
    • Assist business with any matters in relation to service requests

    Client & Engagement Acceptance Independence Monitoring

    • Roll-out of client and engagement acceptance independence monitoring program
    • Review and reporting of testing material

    Firm Communication

    Assist with communication strategy for matters relating to independence
    Other:

    • Provide daily support, direction, and supervision to the team of Risk Analysts/Assistant Managers.
    • Monthly reporting of function
    • Policy drafting, reviewing and maintenance.
    • Undertaking various projects, ad-hoc projects & responsibilities as dictated by the DOI/Deputy DOI
    • Project managing practice reviews, quality reviews, member firm standards as required both internally and by regulators
    • Assist with IT systems affecting the independence function
