    Information Governance Specialist

    Who are we?

    Sanlam Group Technology is responsible for the provision of a digitally enabled technology service as a group COE, drive business and transformation and provide group-wide digital and data architecture. We operate the various technology platforms and shared services, ensure Cyber and Information Security resilience, and act as technology governance and risk orchestrator for technology across Sanlam.

    What will you do?

    The role of the Information Governance Officer/Specialist is to act in support of the development, management, and delivery of the Group Information Governance programme, assisting the Manager: IT Governance and Compliance and actively supporting the various Information Governance communities within the Sanlam Group. 
    Information governance responsibilities include the definition, communication, and implementation of principles, policies, standards, metrics, tools, and responsibilities related to data and information governance, and monitoring policy compliance, change management, and business advisory support. 
     

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • Advises leadership on the information governance strategy, improvements and opportunities.
    • Contributes to the overall information governance program plan.
    • Lead information governance policy research and development.
    • Monitors policy anniversaries and manages the required updates.
    • Participates in the deployment and maintenance of data standards, ensuring continued socialisation, adoption and compliance.
    • Monitor, measure and report on Group data stewardship levels and adoption.
    • Responsible for maintaining the information governance framework, including principles, operating model, processes and controls.
    • Collaborates with enterprise teams on disciplines such as data governance, data quality, data privacy, data usage and sharing and regulatory compliance, to ensure alignment and a compliant estate 
    • Engages cross-functional committees and working groups to support data and compliance initiatives.
    • Serves as a point of contact to develop and sustain data management controls for compliance and security throughout the life cycle of data and services.
    • Performs ad-hoc regulatory compliance analysis and provides impact assessments and implementation guidance.
    • Develops practical implementation guidance to support business requirements and compliance.
    • Works with Group Internal Audit to develop a general control framework and audit controls.
    • Serves as a point of contact for data and information governance implementation related issues.
    • Prepares assessments and reporting for the relevant working groups.
    • Prepares progress reporting for management feedback.
    • Conducts annual information governance maturity assessments.
    • Coordinates, contributes and reviews quarterly reporting for submission into the necessary Group level leadership forums and working groups. 
    • Works with various stakeholders across the organization to ensure implementation and maintenance of the data management framework.
    • Facilitates data management training requirements by developing learning outcomes, designing course content and delivering training to convey data management concepts.

    Additional information required:

    Qualification and experience:

    • National Diploma / Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering, or another quantitative field preferred
    • 5 - 10 years’ experience in implementing and supporting Information Governance programs
    • 5 - 10 years’ experience in financial services (i.e. Insurance, Financial services or Banking)
    • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or Certified Information Management Professional (CIMP Ex) or equivalent, will be advantageous.
    • Experience working directly with CDO’s and CIO’s to define data governance strategies, identifying value, developing realistic benchmarks and projections
    • Designing and implementing large-scale data management initiatives, supported by appropriate technologies
    • Delivering information governance capabilities – developing policy and processes, designing governance organisations, developing control frameworks, architecting change management approaches, and defining performance measures
    • Exposure to data quality, data governance and master data management technologies
    • Conducting data maturity assessments
    • Deep understanding of leading industry external frameworks and methodologies (e.g., DAMA / DMBOK, ARMA, CMMI DMM etc.)
