    Divisional Head, Credit and Risk Wealth

    Job Purpose

    To manage Nedbank credit risk by focusing on proactive portfolio management and participating in credit decisions within the Wealth Management Local division in order to achieve Nedbank Group strategy.

     

    Key responsibilities:

    • Manage adequacy of impairments (including IAS 39) of the risk & defaulted book by overseeing, monitoring and assessing client financial performance and security valuations.
    • Manage risk bucketing of clients in various risk categories by reviewing exceptions reports, monitoring the total advances book and taking corrective actions to address early warning signals.
    • Manage distressed credit clients by managing process through business management and/or business rescue process, making decisions on either to normalise (rehabilitate, soft exit) or a legal exit.
    • Define and set standards for credit risk function and share professional expertise in the relevant forums.
    • Manage and monitor Credit and Credit Risk policy compliance by allocating the mandates in the Credit Risk environment and managing the RRM measures and the quality of the CMIS in the regions.
    • Proactively manage the market and industry risk by identifying early warning signals relating to the business, industry, economy or political risk and deciding on the action plans at various forums.
    • Build and maintain collaborative business relationships that ensure effective risk management by collaborating and networking between various stakeholders in order to streamline and enhance the credit risk processes.
    • Ensure alignment of processes with national and Nedbank policies that meet client expectations by conducting benchmarking exercises to investigate improvement opportunities.
    • Ensure that stakeholder expectations are managed by monitoring team deliverables according to policy and governance.
    • Create a culture of information, knowledge sharing, trust, respect and support to ensure a smooth workflow through leading by example and on-going engagement with the team and cross-functionally.
    • Reduce or eliminate financial risk or loss through ongoing refinement, enforcing adherence to regulations and enhancement of the bank's processes and procedures.
    • Ensure compliance and reduced credit and reputational risk by Implementing relevant legislation within the credit risk environment.
    • Ensure dissemination of knowledge pertaining to the bank's processes and procedures to relevant staff members through ongoing coaching, training and awareness sessions.
    • Ensure link between Nedbank strategy and team operations by aligning own team's work with developed strategy and monitoring implementation.
    • Lead the credit risk team by defining strategy and parameters for divisional portfolio of high risk accounts.
    • Ensure timeous decision making and appropriate corrective action for self and team by identifying early warning signals in client behaviour, industry or markets that are indicative of change in risk profile.
    • Optimise team efficiency and manage change and transformation by leading and creating a performance culture within the team.
    • Optimise efficiency and embed correct values by ensuring direct reports understand and support Nedbank's vision, values and strategy and are measured on delivery against these.
    • Manage performance of reports and hold them accountable for managing the performance of their reports by implementing performance agreements, ensuring a clear vision, agreeing on goals and objectives, providing regular feedback on performance, recognising and rewarding achievement and take appropriate corrective action where required.
    • Identify relevant development needs by assessing own performance and behaviour through formal and informal feedback.
    • Identify areas of resource inefficiencies and promote optimisation through promoting multi-skilling and addressing capacity gaps by reviewing and improving work processes.

     

    Minimum Experience Level: 

    • 10 years Senior Credit Risk / Credit / Legal / Recoveries Management experience
    • Industry - Wealth Management / Banking   

    Qualifications:

    • Matric
    • Professional Qualifications/Honour’s Degree
    • Masters
