    Discipline Mechanical Engineering

    Purpose

    • Manage, implement, and optimise mechanical engineering services professionally and effectively, adhering to all safety and legislative requirements

    Your duties will include:

    • Promptly investigate all incidents.
    • Ensure subordinates are competent for safe task facilitation.
    • Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.
    • Stop unsafe work in any area – not just in your area. We are safety leaders.
    • Issue safety-related instructions to any employees or contractors at the workplace.
    • Initiate action, including training, against subordinates and contractors for their role in unsafe behaviour.
    • Align equipment maintenance strategy with production profile.
    • Improve engineering discipline by providing quality work and feedback to the maintenance management system.
    • Proactively manage production risks.
    • Ensure quality control/assurance in routine testing and contractor management.
    • Review progress against the plan and make changes and adjustments accordingly.
    • Assign tasks to subordinates in line with achieving the agreed production plan.
    • Monitor and optimise work schedules.
    • Assign tasks to supervisors to meet required tasks and reporting.
    • Stop or redirect work that is not being executed according to quality standards or is not being solved by the shift supervisor if needed.
    • Manage and govern mechanical engineering processes safely, efficiently and cost-effectively to meet short-term and long-term production objectives.
    • Implement and contribute to continuous improvement and asset optimisation initiatives and projects to ensure the implementation of best-practice engineering processes.
    • Ensure that customer relations are maintained and enhanced to contribute to overall project success.
    • Ensure that all contracts are in place to monitor actual contractor performance.
    • Effectively uses engineering systems and software and appreciates its benefits.
    • Liaise with stakeholders to provide relevant and specialised technical support and input for operations and projects.
    • Ensure that specifications are in place for pre-commissioning trials and that hot and cold commissioning is done to undertake the commissioning of plants.
    • Ensure that the commissioning handover is as planned.
    • Develop and test new growth ideas for viability in preparation for, and to be taken through, the various project phases to ensure project success.
    • Provide mechanical support to project teams to ensure and achieve mechanical integrity standards.
    • Communicate effectively with team members, provide information, listen actively, and respond to feedback.
    • Establish clear expectations and goals, ensure everyone works towards the same objectives, and track progress over time.
    • Handle changes to the plan effectively, minimise disruption, and keep everyone focused on the end goal.
    • Monitor performance and promptly address any issues or roadblocks, identify areas for improvement, and make necessary changes.

    Qualifications:
    Qualifications

    • Mechanical Engineering B-degree / National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
    • Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer or Technologist
    • SA Drivers Licence

    Experience

    Technical Knowledge

    • 5 Years experience in maintenance in a section in/on a mine. Preferably in a supervisory role.
    • Understanding of value drivers in mechanical engineering and their interdependence.
    • Advanced computer skills (MS Office, Projects, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
    • Knowledge of mechanical engineering in the mining industry and relevant legislation (Mine Health and Safety Act).
    • Experienced in identifying and implementing business and strategic improvement opportunities and projects in mines.
    • Proficient in project management fundamentals.
    • Good knowledge of change management methodologies.
