    Discipline Civil Engineer - Postmasburg

    Job Description:
    Purpose:

    • Implement and optimise civil engineering technical services professionally and effectively, adhering to all safety and legislative requirements

    Your duties will include:

    • Select and allocate resources for safe work.
    • Consider environmental factors and minimise adverse impacts.
    • Oversee safety management system elements and comply as appropriate.
    • Ensure critical controls are functioning.
    • Implement and maintain safety standards.
    • Promptly investigate all incidents.
    • Stop unsafe work in any area – not just in your area. We are safety leaders.
    •  Issue safety-related instructions to any employees or contractors at the workplace.
    • Initiate action, including training, against subordinates and contractors for their role in unsafe behaviour.
    •  Align civil engineering strategy with production profile.
    • Improve engineering discipline by providing quality work and feedback to the civil management system.
    • Proactively manage civil engineering risks.
    • Ensure quality control/assurance in routine testing and contractor management.
    •  Review progress against the plan and make changes and adjustments accordingly.
    • Assign tasks to contractors in line with achieving the agreed production plan.
    • Monitor and optimise contractors' work schedules.
    • Stop or redirect work not being executed according to quality standards or not being solved if needed.
    • Manage and govern all civil engineering processes safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively to meet short-term and long-term production objectives.
    • Implement and contribute to continuous improvement and asset optimisation initiatives and projects to ensure best practice civil engineering processes are in place.
    • Prepare, review, coordinate, check and approve calculations, drawings, and specifications to achieve and maintain Kumba’s operational and project objectives.
    • Ensuring adherence to civil design standards and specifications throughout project assignments.
    • Provide compliance assurance, auditing, and inspection services to the operations.
    • Provide technical input into structural design issues and liaise with the Mechanical Department on plant designs.
    • Ensure all design standards are adhered to and maintained on all projects.
    • Ensure that customer relations are maintained and enhanced to contribute to overall project success.
    • Ensure all contracts are in place to monitor contractor performance and compare to agreed-upon requirements.
    • Creating automated reports where appropriate to track and monitor results and quantify benefits associated with specific strategic Initiatives.
    • Develop and test new growth ideas, including technology, for viability in preparation for and to be taken through the various project phases to ensure project success.
    • Ensure compliance with the budget for the area of responsibility.
    • Evaluate and approve cost impacts in the area of responsibility and revise the budget accordingly.
    • Identify, communicate, and execute potential cost-reduction initiatives.
    • Generate authorisation for expenditures.
    • Revise budget after receiving appropriate authorisations.
    • Take necessary action to correct misallocations.

    Qualifications:

    • Civil Engineering B-degree / National Diploma in Civil Engineering
    • Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer or Technologist
    • SA Drivers License

    Technical Knowledge

    • Understanding of value drivers in civil engineering and their interdependence.
    • Advanced computer skills (MS Office, Projects, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
    • Knowledge of civil engineering in the mining industry and relevant legislation (Mine Health and Safety Act).
    • Experienced in identifying and implementing business and strategic improvement opportunities and projects in mines.
    • Proficient in project management fundamentals
    • Good knowledge of change management methodologies.
