Accountant: Cash & Banking at Shoprite Group of Companies

Purpose of the Job    

• In the role of Cash and Banking Accountant your portfolio leverages your specialised tactical knowledge of the Cash and Banking activities across business entities as a key success factor in providing support to a variety of financial, operational and project scenarios. You will act in a supporting capacity to the Cash and Banking Financial Manager in order to maintain Group wide Cash and Banking partnerships, policies and processes, setting up and maintenance of basic system configurations. Core to this role is the oversight of daily, weekly, monthly and annual account reconciliation and reporting activities related to all in-store cash and banking transactions: daily cash, electronic and wallet tenders received. The team will look to you for accurate financial execution, process refinements, and coaching to ensure that an accurate, high quality of ongoing Financial Services support and performance is maintained. You will lead a financial team and work closely with a cross-functional team of technical and business stakeholders who participate in matrix structured projects, facilitating, co-creating and implementing sustainable Financial Services solutions. Whilst the scope of the role is SA based there is an expectation that this role extends full support where necessary and relevant to Non-RSA - providing guidance on various Non-RSA banking projects and accounting (and where possible replicating processes, systems and solutions)

Job Objectives    

• Act as key support to the Cash and Banking Financial Manager, by providing oversight and actively participating in cash and banking activities, including but not limited to, account reconciliations, project implementation, team training and guidance, reporting, resolution of in-store cash and banking transactional activity, finops guidance and collaboration with external banking stakeholders
• Manage the various aspects of cash and banking in the Shoprite Group including new store openings, cash in transit, cash processing, cash issuing at the bank and in-store cash-deposit processes.
• Review monthly reconciliation and resolve unreconciled items for cash, card and wallets.
• Ensure the accurate and timeous delivery of management reports. Prepare daily, weekly and monthly financial transactional information as required and ensure compliant data storage and accessibility for future reference: reporting, customer request, audit etc
• Support the Cash and Banking Financial Manager in various Financial Services projects pertaining to cash, card, wallet (and evolving transactional platforms and interfaces).
• Set-up accounting entries in SAP, deliver the configuration and set-up of any new bank accounts, and other basic system configurations requirements as relevant to business partners and new solutions etc
• Maintain relationships with the various Financial Service business partners and other stakeholders (divisions, store managers etc).
• Effectively lead, partake and give feedback in meetings with various stakeholders in the financial services area with both internal and external parties.
• As a cash and banking subject matter expert, communicate with store management regarding various in-store queries and controls and provide them with the necessary guidance to ensure a smooth in-store transactional experience.
• Communicate with, participate in and support all audit activities and closing of findings etc.
• Conduct regular 1:1 briefings with direct reports on an on-going and regular basis and demonstrate a close understanding of the status of their work and related performance. Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA(SA))

Qualifications    

• Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) 

Experience    

• 2-3 years relevant experience in the Banking/Financial Services industry with specific exposure to Retail banking: operational process level in-store transactional activities and account reconciliations at a group level with IFRS, Tax and VAT knowledge - (preferred). 
• 3-5 years managerial experience 

Knowledge and Skills    

• Exposure to and an understanding of Corporate, Retail, and/or Customer interfacing environment in a similar role (non sector specific) 
• Solid Advanced Excel, Accounting package exposure (like SAP, Pastel etc.) 
• Exposure to SAP, Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word etc.)
