Job Description

• Van Schaik Publishers, a leading academic publisher and part of the Media24 Group, has a vacancy for a well-organised and self-motivated Academic Content Consultant to secure new adoptions of our books, maintain existing adoptions, and represent Van Schaik Publishers nationally. The position reports to the Sales Manager. Van Schaik Publishers is based in Pretoria.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Grow Van Schaik Publishers’ Public Administration, Medical and Nursing, Communication, Natural Science and IT market share by:
  • Securing new adoptions at Higher Education Institutions across the country
  • Maintaining existing adoptions at Higher Education Institutions across the country
  • Identifying sales and adoption opportunities, researching new and potential markets, and communicating these with relevant team members
  • Building and nurturing relationships with existing and potential prescribing lecturers for all relevant lists
  • Achieving and exceeding sales targets
• Call on Higher Education Institutions (including universities, private HE institutions, technical colleges and bookstores), and attend and exhibit at sector conferences
• Stay on top of customer needs and trends and competitor activity in the Higher Education sector
• Provide regular feedback through internal structures (reports, meetings) to review strategies, plans, threats and opportunities, and participate in sales planning on an ongoing basis to maximise opportunities
• Capture and update information on the Van Schaik Publishers’ CRM
• Work closely with colleagues in the Sales & Marketing and Publishing teams

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• A relevant tertiary qualification
• Willingness to travel nationally
• Valid Code 8 driver’s license and own reliable vehicle
• Computer literate (MS Office suite); Experience of Bookmaster will serve as a recommendation
• Superior interpersonal and English communication skills
• Excellent organisational and administrative skills, and an ability to prioritise competing demands
• Self-motivated, tenacious and able to take initiative
• A strong customer service orientation and understanding of what motivates customers
• Establishing and maintaining client relationships at all levels as a trusted advisor
• Having energy, stamina, tenacity and self-motivation, even in the face of adversity
• Demonstrating self-confidence with the ability to influence and persuade
• At least three years’ relevant academic sales experience
