Job Summary

• Delivery of category packaging program, including innovation, VIP, Quality and other initiatives.
• Maintains a close working relationship with GDC & RDC, ensuring that local input is given and outputs shared.
• Partner with other functions to identify value improvement projects, evaluate feasibility, establish capability and implement to achieve profitable growth category goals.
• Partner with Supply Chain, the R&D network (local global) and suppliers to land on-shoring projects.
• Provide technical inputs for new project briefs and participate in lead concept selection through prototype development, evaluation and testing.
• Keep abreast of and evaluate emerging packaging technologies for opportunities to contribute to sustainable growth category goals.
• Monitor Competitor activity and assess use of packaging technologies for competitive advantage in terms of consumer appeal, functionality, cost and availability.
• Lead risk identification, assessment and action planning for packaging change projects and participate in risk assessment activities for innovation, VIP and supply chain support projects.
• Lead component approval, packaging testing & qualification to ensure components meet consumer expectations, functional requirements, customer needs, cost targets, manufacturing and distribution demands
• Ensuring technical specifications are in place for all packaging items, including localising regional or global specifications
• Providing packaging data for creation of new product codes and maintenance of bills of materials.
• Provision of data to assist in environmental reporting
• Providing all relevant data for Gate Documentation in a timely and clear manner
• Close monitoring of packaging quality issues and working with Supply Chain and regional/global teams to resolve quickly
• Ensure all barcodes meet GS1 and customer requirements
• Work with Supply Management & Quality on new/alternative supplier development
• Always aware of new local technologies or innovations, provides local packaging information to category teams
• Grow the R&D packaging talent pool through development of self and contributing to the development of others in terms of technical packaging knowledge, professional and general skills.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• Completed relevant tertiary qualification
• 2 – 3 years’ relevant experience
