    (569) Senior Economic Statistician - ESD

    The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

    • Analyse economic information and indicators and report on the latest trends and developments in various product deliverables, such as Economic Flash Reports and the Monetary Policy Committee background pack.
    • Identify and develop new, meaningful economic indicators for analysis using appropriate and relevant technical expertise.
    • Work with big datasets using appropriate technical skills to extract relevant and useful economic indicators from these datasets.
    • Enhance and maintain the statistical database of the unit.
    • Compile and disseminate Economic Flash Reports following in-depth analysis of economic indicators, supplemented by nowcasts of these economic indicators.
    • Conduct analytical and methodological research on price, sentiment, labour market and short-term economic indicators.
    • Write and edit analytical and methodological research notes independently or in collaboration with other colleagues.
    • Make presentations as required, including to management or external forums.
    • Provide guidance and training to other staff members in the unit.

    Qualifications

    To be considered for this position, candidates must be in possession of:

    • an Honours degree specialising in either Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, Data Science and/or a related field; and
    • at least eight years’ experience in the field of economic, statistical or related analysis.

    Additional requirements include:

    • an affinity for quantitative economic analysis and economic modelling;
    • the ability to program in EViews, R, Python or related open-source software will be an added advantage; 
    • being task-oriented, with time management skills to operate in a deadline-driven environment that often requires working under pressure, without compromising on quality;
    • to initiate, manage and oversee projects to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables;
    • the ability to work independently as well as within a team/project environment;
    • excellent report writing skills;
    • taking initiative and sound problem-solving skills;
    • strategic and innovative thinking skills;
    • managing complexity and ambiguity;
    • planning and organising skills;
    • conceptual thinking skills;
    • excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively present information; and
    • the ability to pay attention to detail.
