    Packaging Development Manager (Lv12)

    Job description

    Applications are invited for the above mentioned position in the Global Marketing division based at Stellenbosch. This person will report to the Group Manager Packaging Innovation.

    Purpose Statement of Position

    To lead the technical packaging development process to deliver on innovation projects on time at right quality and cost.

    Key Performance Areas would include, but are not limited to:

    • Strategic & Financial Results
      • Deliver specialist packaging development services to Marketing and Distell operations
      • Apply technical specialist knowledge to lead decision making on new packaging ideas
      • Provide alternative options for the pack designs to accelerate and facilitate decisions
      • Apply applicable material technologies that is in scope with cost and quality requirement and aligned with Distell manufacturing footprint and supply chain requirements
      • Providing clear direction and prioritization on opportunities of high value which align with corporate product strategies per region
    • Operational Results
      • Develop the technical and aesthetic packaging material components
      • Develop packaging components and prototypes for sign off on technical specifications and drawings
      • Execute technical investigations, identify risks and table mitigating actions
      • Provide the content for the complete set of technical specifications that meet the quality/cost requirements
      • Collaborate and involve key stakeholders in the pre-concept and subsequent stages of packaging development
    • Customer & Relationship Results
      • Establish focused network and relationships with Suppliers and Packaging Specialist providers
      • Identify, collaborate and form alliances to support and expand the innovation drive
      • Develop new suppliers for new innovative materials
      • Actively engage and form internal circles of collaboration within project/program to drive packaging innovation
    • Leadership Results
      • Lead and pro-actively coach teams on product and packaging material innovation capability for Distell
      • Drive you own development to ensure specialist knowledge/skills remain world class
      • Provide coaching and support to work partners and peers in the packaging innovation team
      • Consistently displays the values of Distell
    • Innovation & Improvement Results
      • Investigate new technologies and benchmark Distell material components
      • Identify, investigate and develop disruptive material technologies for high volume products to improve profitability
      • Actively identify, assess and implement advanced technologies to keep Distell at the forefront of product packaging innovation
      • Compare Distell products with competitor products to stay relevant in the market

    The Successful Candidate Must Have The Following Experience/skills

    • Relevant qualification (Technical B Degree or diploma)
    • +7 years’ experience in packaging development in beverage industry
