To manage designated teams within the Distribution Centre environment in a culture of accelerated performance ensuring that it excels in compliance and contributing towards the achievement of KPI’s.
A day in the life of a Team Leader:
CONTROL, MAINTAIN AND ENSURE ACCURACY OF MASTER DATA BY:
Managing the workflow of new and existing materials as well as ascertaining that the data related to pick – face, bin and materials are updated as and when required
*Note that the requirements include but not limited to:
- Assisting in discontinuation of materials and ensuring efficient use of warehouse capacity
- Actively participate in all Warehouse related matters of the Customer Facing Supply Chain to ensure cross functional alignment through:
- Regular and Pro-active communication with customers, customer service and other key stakeholders are updated
- Collaboration with customers, customer service and other key stakeholders on elements that will have an impact on Freshness and Bad Goods
- Directing the compilation of the daily/weekly inbound schedule as per the agreed 'footprint' with the DC Manager
- Directing and vetting daily/monthly reports on in-transit shipments to ensure timely clearance of standard reports.
- Actively participate in all Warehouse related matters of the Customer Facing Supply Chain to ensure cross functional alignment through:
- Regular and Pro-active communication with CS and other key stakeholders
- Collaboration with CS and other key stakeholders on elements that will have an impact on Freshness and Bad Goods
- Address all variances with sending plants upon receipt of inbound loads. Ensure that all products delivered are in line with the first-time quality principle. Address and execute all Hauler claims for short delivered product in line with the relevant time lines until payment is made
MAINTAIN BUDGET AND CONTROL VARIANCES BY:
- Organizing daily cycle counting and analyze daily/weekly variances to institute corrective action where there are stock variances
- Managing IRA, stock losses and bad goods and provide monthly dashboard information
- Preparing and supplying analysis of DC related top 10 Bad Goods.
- Manage staff to obtain productivity targets.
- Manage warehouse accuracy in terms of picking.
- Management of staff resources
- Management of Reach Trucks and Power pallet trucks (PPT) as well as the CHEP Account
- Management of Kronos hours, annual leave, absenteeism
*Note that the requirements include but not limited to:
- Updating KPI’s/DOR/WOR boards and presenting/responding to questions related to information on the boards.
- Managing inbound/outbound transport vehicles in terms of turnaround times.
- Managing outsourced transport service providers/agents in terms of POD‘s, outstanding shipments, on time deliveries etcetera.
MANAGE INVENTORY CONTROL BY:
- Ensuring that shipments are completed on time for pre-loading.
- Running daily blocked stock report and investigating reasons thereof
- Managing printing and reprinting of SSCC labels and ensuring that best practices are complied with.
- Manage the timeous closing of shipments
- Manage unit to unit transactions
- Minimize stock losses through regular cycle counting and bin verification as well as pick face maintenance.
- Investigate and report discrepancies.
- Identify and communicate stock close to expiry to all relevant stakeholders.
MANAGE SAFETY AND HEALTH BY:
- Ensuring that safety regulations and legislation are adhered to
- Investigating and reporting all accidents
- Ensuring compliance to driven machinery requirements
- Ensuring implementation and compliance with quality control systems and procedures
MANAGE TALENT AND SUCCESSION PLANS BY:
- Conducting IDP’s, PE/PDG and driving performance management.
- Maintaining discipline and taking corrective action where necessary.
- Select, retain, develop, and lead the right people
- Assist LEAN Value Stream Design by embracing and implementing a structured approach towards all the elements of NCE thereby ensuring that a continuous improvement culture is developed and sustained
What will make you successful?
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in the Distribution environment
- Excellent communication skills
- High level of attention to detail
- Minimum required qualification is NQF 6 Production Diploma or equivalent and relevant operational experience at market/business level in the following areas is beneficial:
- Formal Knowledge of distribution end to end process
- Stock control, SHE, Quality
- SAP experience
- Employee Relations experience

Main Purpose
To receive and record all stock returned to Goods Returns Area and to Check, Grade, and Initiate debit notes for stock not received.
Prepare stock listing for stock to be donated as instructed by superior.
A day in the life of a Goods Returns Clerk:
Returns
- Liaising with warehouse for 1st grade stock to be checked and collected for resale
- Ensuring that all returns received are PGR’d
- Completion of MH steps and ensure that all invoices/PODs are returned to the transport department timeously for downdating and filing
Donations
- Responsible for listing stock that must be donated
- Checking that donated stock has not reached limit related to the expiry date
- Obtain the necessary approvals for donations as well as obtaining the necessary outbound delivery order (OBD)
- Communicating with transport for the shipment number and stock office for the PGI’ing of donations
- Picking of donations from relevant bins as well as communication with the donation company regarding collections
- Ensuring all details of customer collecting donations are received, recorded and filed, i.e., Driver’s license, vehicle registration number, gate pass, S18 certificate, etc
- Ensuring signed POD/invoice is handed over to T-HUB
Staff shop orders
- Provide availability listing of products in GRA
- Obtaining approvals for staff shop orders as well as OBD
- Communicating with transport for the shipment number and stock office for the PGI’ing of the staff shop order
- Picking of staff shop orders from the relevant bins and informing staff shop of the readiness of the order
- Retrieve signed invoice/POD and handover to T-HUB
Write offs
- Listing of stock that must be scrapped
- Obtain the relevant approvals for write offs
Stock control
- Salvaging of stock for donations and scrapping
- Prepare stock physically and systematically for write off
- Assist with counting of stock
- Initiate daily stock counts
- Capture stock counted quantities manually into the system
Housekeeping and Safety
- Ensure workstations are kept clean and tidy
- Contribute to the safety culture on site
General
- Assist in the department where required or as reasonably requested by Management
What will make you successful?
- Matric
- Telephone etiquette
- Understanding of a Warehouse layout
- Computer literate (Excel Windows and email) Numeracy
- SAP knowledge and experience
- 3-5 years’ experience within a warehousing facility offering reverse logistics
