    Production Manager

    We’re on the lookout for an experienced Production Manager to manage the plant according to budget, quality and environmental performance standards in order to maximize production.

    As a Production Manager, you will be responsible for:

    • Ensure that plant availability is at its highest at all times
    • Arrange for equipment stoppage either for repairs, maintenance or to be cleaned
    • Propose and justify for plant equipment modification in line with the change management procedure
    • Compile weekly and monthly production reports and account for variances in budget, plant downtime and raw material usage
    • Liaise with all necessary stakeholders in ensuring an adequate supply of raw material and equipment and that the quality meets the specification
    • Supervise major shutdowns and start-up’s and ensure the most effective passage of the event
    • Reinforce existing process standards by monitoring the plant reports and logbooks on a daily basis
    • Regularly assess the section's manpower needs against future plant requirements

    What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma (NQF6) in Chemical Engineering or related qualification
    • B Tech or BSc in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering would be preferred
    • At least 5 years supervisory experience in a similar environment

    Engineer: Boilers

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced Engineer: Boilers to supply competent and cost-effective maintenance and engineering support, service, advice, solutions, and techniques to maximize boiler performance in a safe and legally compliant manner.

    As an Engineer: Boilers, you will be responsible for:

    • Develop, implement, and maintain standards to increase boiler plant and equipment reliability and safe operation
    • Complete failure analysis of plant and equipment as per plant standard, identify probable root cause and ensure close-out
    • Inspect the internal condition of the boiler during shut down in relation to the AIA to obtain a COC after any modification and repair
    • Manage boiler inspection reports and repair data books
    • Assist the Maintenance Manager with long-term maintenance planning, budgeting, capex, maintenance, and project work execution
    • Provide weekly feedback to the Maintenance Manager on boiler performance, unresolved engineering problems, monthly projects report, investigations undertaken, and the status
    • Support ISO9000 (Quality Management system), ISO14001 (Environmental Management standards), ISO50001 (Energy Management System), and OHSAS18000 (Health and Safety Management System) for engineering in the section. Educate the team on the requirements and monitor adherence to standards, policies, procedures, and work instructions
    • Participate in the development of safe work procedures for the section, perform critical task analysis, guide and monitor the team on correct isolation and lockout procedures when performing maintenance work

    What are we looking for?

    • 5 years of Boiler and turbine experience
    • Experience within the pulp and paper industry would be considered advantageous
    • NQF level 7 Engineering Qualification (BSc / BEng / BTech in Mechanical Engineering)
    • GCC (Factories) or permission to write will be considered advantageous
    • Management Development Programme (MDP) or relevant management qualification will be considered advantageous

    Internal and Operational Communications Lead

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced Internal and Operational Communications Lead to develop a comprehensive internal communications service to deliver Sappi’s strategic messages and provide all staff with regular, meaningful and consistent information and also lead the creation and implementation of multiple forms of communication activities and programmes within the Sappi Southern Africa region.

    As an Internal and Operational Communications Lead, you will be responsible for:

    • Provide regular detailed analyses of engagement of internal stakeholder communications
    • Proactively collaborate with other functional departments to resolve issues pertaining to internal and operational stakeholder relations in Communications
    • Provide regular monthly briefing reports to internal management at country level, distilling internal company communications into clear, concise business messages
    • Take an active role in assuming projects on an individual and team basis in support of specific departmental and corporate objectives
    • Weekly reporting to GM Communications on the internal and operational strategy implementation
    • Identify internal stakeholder engagement platforms and opportunities
    • Establish measurement and evaluation criteria, monitoring and reporting to identify key issues, show impact and progress over time

    What are we looking for?

    • Relevant Bachelor’s degree in Communication/Journalism or in a relevant field
    • At least eight (8) years’ experience in internal communications and operations
    • Strong writing, editing and verbal communications skills
    • High-energy, detail-oriented and results-driven communications strategist and practitioner
    • Able to lead multiple, complex projects simultaneously
    • Understanding and experience across communication channels
    • Experience using an internal, social knowledge-sharing, content management or intranet communication platform
    • Experience managing, guiding and motivating a team across different locations
    • Ability to develop and implement strategic communication for the business
    • Ability to engage and advise senior leadership regarding internal communication strategies

    Senior Maintenance Engineer - Energy

    This role reports into the Maintenance Manager

    The main responsibilities of this job are:

    • Responsible for all statutory requirements in the section in accordance with the OHS Act.
    • Ensure the maintenance team are educated, aware and comply to all SHEQ policies, procedures, best practices, and work instructions.
    • Provide guidance to the teams, perform inspections, and maintain records.
    • Ensure that work permit requirements are understood by all team members and stringently adhered to.
    • Actively guide and monitor the team on the correct isolation and lockout procedures when performing maintenance work.
    • Participate in plant safety committee meetings.
    • Participate in the development of safe work procedures for the section and perform critical task analyses.
    • Perform the targeted number of planned job observations.
    • Support ISO9020 (Quality Management System), ISO14001 (Environmental Management Standards), ISO50001 (Energy Management System), ), ISO 55001, (Asset Management System) and OHSAS18000 (Health and Safety Management System) for engineering in the section. Educate the team on the requirements and monitor adherence to standards, policies, procedures, and work instructions.
    • Ensure compliance of contractors to all SHEQ policies, procedures, best practices, and work instructions by performing walkabouts and inspections as well as checking their safety files.
    • Actively drive the use of plant reliability monitoring techniques to ensure proactive maintenance and eliminate unplanned downtime.
    • Develop shut plans for monthly, quarterly and annual shuts as required.
    • Maintain an incidental shut list of work to be done during short notice opportunities.
    • Participate in the commissioning of new and decommissioning of old equipment within the section according to sound engineering practices for all specific engineering disciplines.
    • Participate to contract negotiations for engineering contracts as a technical specialist.
    • Participate in a 5-year rolling maintenance spend planning process considering normal maintenance spend, Renewal maintenance spend and Maintenance Capital projects.
    • Manage capital projects for equipment on time and within budget. These projects may cover any engineering discipline.
    • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly maintenance reports using system and qualitative data.
    • Provide weekly feedback to the Maintenance Manager on overall plant performance, unresolved engineering problems and cost control.
    • Oversee the recruitment, recognition, performance management, remuneration, development and discipline of the section’s maintenance and production teams.
    • Take direct responsibility for the development of direct reports.
    • Provide on the job coaching to members of the team. Develop their ability to do predictive maintenance and problem solving.
    • Develop and manage a section Succession Plan.

    The ideal candidate should have:

    • BSc/BEng/BTech/Advance Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 to10 years’ experience as an Electrical/ Mechanical Engineer in a heavy industry/manufacturing environment.
    • Government Certificate of Competency would be advantageous. (Factories).
    • 5 years’ experience managing multidiscipline maintenance teams in a section/area.
    • MDP or equivalent would be advantageous.
