    Artisan Welder Shift Based - Parow Plant Snacks

    Responsibilities

    • Set up welding machines based on the job at hand or using a Welding Procedure Specification.
    • Read and interpret blueprints and/or drawings to determine the specific welding requirements.
    • Ability to on all types of welding inclusive of MIG and TIG weld for steel, aluminium, mild and stainless-steel components based on the specifications of the blueprints and/or drawings.
    • Welds precision or close tolerance parts and assemblies.
    • Reworks and repairs parts and assemblies.
    • Maintains welds on various items using a variety of welding processes and positions.
    • Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards.
    • Follow, create and help maintain Welding Procedure Specifications.
    • Ability to test welding quality and integrity.
    • Assist in breakdowns requiring welding and modifications.
    • Assemble items/profiles from drawings.
    • Keep work areas clean and organized and take proper care of all equipment and facilities.
    • Follow all company rules and policies.
    • Provide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the given task.
    • Follow all safety rules and quality standards.
    • Work with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency.
    • Proper storage of finished fabricated products.
    • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs and uses.

    Administration and Document Completion

    • Maintaining a record of all the maintenance work that has been conducted on the machinery.
    • Complete daily shift reports.
    • Ensures that parts and spares are in stock for welding activities.
    • Performing Standby and Shift duties in line with operational requirements.

    Qualifications

    • N3 and Trade in Welding
    • 5 years post-apprenticeship experience in FMCG environment.
    • Good knowledge of GMP.
    • Team player.
    • Ability to work with a diverse workforce.
    • Good communication skills.

    Specialist Artisan - Upington Dried Fruit Plant

    Responsibilities

    Conducts Diagnosis of Equipment Failures

    • Establishes whether the equipment breakdown is related to a missed planned maintenance or part failure or human interference.
    • Uses any of the problem (finding and) solving techniques like 5-Whys, RCA, decision trees etc to pin point the real problem behind failures/breakdowns.
    • Completes job card in consultation with the Maintenance Planner/Store Controller and requisitions a part or modifies mechanical parts depending on the outcome of the above.
    • Interpret components (e.g., shaft/bushes) structural failure, material specifications and reproduce the technical drawings of the components.
    • Complete material purchase requisition in line with required scope of the diagnosis and spares to be machined.

    Conducts Preventative Maintenance

    • Performs defined and/or ad hoc condition monitoring on electrical equipment on a daily basis when on shift.
    •  PLC’s.
    • Optical and Camera sorters.
    • Ensure CCP’s as per OEM standard.
    • Completes documentation relating to work done for future reference in the event of failures.
    • Continuous reference to equipment drawings, engineering standards and GMPs in the performance and closing out of jobs done.
    • Generate component drawings as required for all ad hoc parts during equipment overhaul.
    • Manage components/spares in the Electrical shop to ensure adequate cover for Planned Maintenance activities.
    • Managing the Electrical shop equipment (Testers, Soldering Irons etc) and housekeeping.

     

    Planned Maintenance

    • Ensures that scheduled maintenance in terms of Engineering plans is conducted as prescribed following defined protocols and compliance to GMPs.
    • Ensures that machined spares are available as and when required and shall schedule time to execute this one.
    • Completes job cards and parts requisition documents timeously to improve on mean time to repair thus ensuring high plant availability.
    • Ensure that all schedule maintenance are completed in the prescribed time and that all necessary information are completed in order to be closed on the CMMS by the Store Controller/Maintenance Planner.

    Plant Breakdowns

    • Attends to all electrical plant breakdowns following or informed by diagnosis conducted under point 1 above.
    • In the event of mechanical modifications, follows defined procedures in updating relevant documentation and equipment records.
    • Proactively escalates equipment problems to ensure minimal or eliminate time stoppages.
    • Maintains IPS standards on the respective lines.
    • Clearly demarcates workstation in accordance with procedures in the event of major work to minimise disruptions and possible injuries as a result of human traffic and area being used as thoroughfare.
    • Adheres to AIB and relevant food safety programmes and environmental protocols.
    • Completes documentation of work done and close out on ad hoc call outs
    • Updates parts/spares records in conjunction with the stores (OEM, machined and generic spares/parts)
    • Monitors equipment performance after attending to and fixing problems.

    Other

    • Run daily, weekly, and monthly checklists.
    • Pre-start-up factory.
    • Reporting on a monthly basis.
    • Assist with closing all near misses and safety related tasks.
    • Ensure that all audits are prepared well in advanced to minimise any findings.
    • Maintain and fix defects and failures on all machineries and equipment.
    • SAP functionalities.
    • Participate in continuous improvement projects.
    • Innovative and Productivity savings.
    • Part of CAPEX team.
    • Keep records and documentation up to date, such as weekly, monthly inspections etc.
    • Assist in training of apprentices and operators.
    • Improvement of machinery in his/her responsible areas.
    • Ensure maximum of 2% downtime on the above responsible areas and the entire factory.
    • Weekend work shall be compulsory as and when required.
    • Standby for the entire site in the event of any Electrical emergencies after hours or weekends.
    • Due to operational requirement ad hoc work shall be issues over and above your normal day to day tasks. 

    Qualifications

    • BSc in mechanical, industrial, electro mechanical engineering or Diploma/ L4 and above in mechanical and electrical fields
    • N4 – N6 Instrumentation / Electrical Technician, With qualifying section 13 trade test. Strong mechanical attributes.
    • 4 years / Relevant Practical experience in a manufacturing/ Engineering industry preferably in FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods), out of which 3 years as a technician (instrumentation / electrician)
    • Safety competency-Basic level Advance level.
    • Problem-solving and diagnostics competency- Advanced level.
    • Calibration, adjustment and/or modification of equipment and tools-Advanced level.
    • Production machine operation and control competency-Advanced level.
    • Equipment maintenance competency- Advanced level.
    • Reporting competency-Basic level.
    • Good communications skills; good both in Afrikaans and English.
    • Strong analytical thinking skills.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities.
    • Practical thinker.
    • Basic knowledge on food safety, hygiene.
