    Technical Underwriter (Construction & Guarantees) - Sandton

    Role Purpose    

    • Risk based underwriting of facilities and guarantees transactions for the construction (contract) bonds & guarantees division.

    Requirements    

    • An undergraduate degree in the Built Environment
    • A postgraduate degree in the Built Environment (MEng, MSc or similar) (or working towards it)
    • Certificate in short-term Insurance (or working towards it)
    • RE 5 Certificate for Representatives (or working towards it)
    • FAIS compliant (or working towards it)
    • At least 4 years working experience in a surety/guarantees/trade division of an insurer/reinsurer/bank.
    • Commercial knowledge of the infrastructure/construction contracts, guarantee wordings, engineering principles and legal principles.

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Underwriting of complex and large guarantees transactions within the construction guarantees portfolios.
    • Underwriting of guarantees within the designated operational mandate.
    • Assist management on the portfolio management of large/corporate clients.
    • Preparation of thorough and detailed underwriting risk/credit reports.
    • Assess the full life cycle of a construction project from inception to close out.
    • Assess existing and new clients’ financial statements & prepare a detailed financial risk assessment.
    • Conduct value engineering & risk assessment on new and existing projects.
    • Assist with the underwriting & placement of foreign and corporate guarantees.
    • Perform reference and credit checks for existing and new construction clients.
    • Enhance underwriting standards in the construction bonds & guarantees division.
    • Manage the underwriting methodology in the construction bonds & guarantees division through continuous research and improvements.
    • Pursue relevant growth opportunities that would allow the Guarantees division to achieve its strategic targets and objectives.
    • Build, maintain and continuously strengthen all relationships with the MMH Group’s product, support, reinsurance as well as broker partners.
    • Ensure that all regular interactions with any of the MMH Group’s reinsurance, broker or product partners are done at the highest possible level of professionalism.
    • Stay abreast of developments in the global guarantee & related insurance markets.
    • Maintain professional relationships with all customers, suppliers and trade connections of the MMH Group with a view to maintain and improve the group’s reputation and goodwill

    Junior Company Secretary - Sandton

    Role Purpose    

    • The role will be required to ensure that all legal entities comply with legal, statutory and governance requirements, and also contribute towards optimisation and continuous improvement of the department. The individual will be required to manage the minute taking and administration of the operational and management committees within the organisation. This individual will also be responsible for assisting the Company Secretary with any corporate legal matters and overall governance requirements including communication, training and reporting.

    Requirements    

    • A CGISA qualification (advantageous)
    • At least 1-3 years’ experience in company secretarial administration

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Provide input into committee meeting agendas and meeting packs to ensure compliance with statutory and corporate governance prerequisites.
    • Attend meetings and take accurate and professional minutes.

    • Assist with the drafting and execution of company resolutions.

    • Check and maintain all company secretarial records in-house (manual and electronic) and with CIPC.

    Agile Scrum Master Project C - Sandton

    Role Purpose    

    • Facilitate the Agile Scrum ceremonies for the Data switching project for BDX and Master and Transactional Data for the Guardrisk Group business.  Facilitate the administration and reporting of the progress of the overall delivery to relevant forums.

    Requirements    

    • Appropriate 3/4 year IT/Business qualification – B Com or B Sc or B (Industrial Engineering) degree or equivalent Certified Scrum Master
    • At least 5+ years experience in: Agile project delivery
    • Understanding data projects
    • Knowledge of numerous well documented techniques for filling the intentional gaps left in Scrum (E.g. Burndown techniques, retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.)
    • Experience in managing multiple feature development in one backlog

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Ensure the Dataswitch delivery teams are practising core Agile principles of collaboration, prioritisation, team accountability, and visibility in accordance with relevant standards.
    • Support the development process, the Product Owner and the scrum delivery team to ensure delivery of solutions and product releases.
    • Facilitate Agile ceremonies of sprint kickoff, daily stand-ups, sprint review, and sprint retrospective in order to meet business requirements.
    • Track and communicate team velocity, sprint progress and maintain process documentation in accordance with best practice standards.
    • Use appropriate communication channels within the scrum team to create a trusting and safe team environment.
    • Assist with backlog maintenance and the facilitation of defects/bugs resolution to achieve and meet business needs.
    • Participate proactively in developing and maintaining team standards in order to maximise team performance.
    • Mitigate external disruptions and distractions, whenever possible, to ensure optimal team effectiveness.

    Motor Liability Claims Technician - Sandton

    Role Purpose    

    • To manage a portfolio of motor liability claims and to provide ad hoc technical advice to stakeholders.

    Requirements    

    • Matric
    • A law degree – preferable but not mandatory, subject to experience in Short-term insurance environment
    • 60 FAIS Credits
    • Computer literacy(MS Word, Outlook and Excel)
    • At least 5 years experience, some of which should be in a legal practice environment or insurance recovery & liability environment
    • Insurance qualification preferable
    • RE qualification
    • Intensive knowledge of liability claims and resulting litigation
    • Intensive knowledge of recoveries
    • Knowledge in administering and handling liability claims and recoveries

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Day to day reporting to the Team Leader
    • Handling liability claims in accordance with claims handling procedures
    • Facilitating and managing outsourced motor liability claims
    • Handling and settling claims within stipulated time frames and as per SLAs / mandates in place
    • Entering into settlement negotiations with third parties / third party representatives
    • Negotiating with motor assessors, attorneys, other service providers  
    • Providing technical advice on litigated matters
    • Providing clients / brokers with the highest standard of service
    • Providing clients / brokers with feedback on claims progress at all times
    • Ensuring diary system is implemented and adhered to at all times
    • Ensuring adherence to SLAs / mandates in place with regards to claims from mandated brokers
    • Rendering of assistance from time to time with ad hoc tasks
