    Head: Contracts & Corporate Transactions

    Purpose

    The primary purpose of the role is to be accountable for legal support and to provide expert and comprehensive legal solutions to all departments and subsidiaries within Liberty group and all its subsidiaries. This will include providing legally sound solutions to the Liberty group with a particular focus on commercial contracts with third parties and corporate transactions (including all mergers and acquisitions, private equity and banking and finance type transactions) and proactively supporting the Board, Group Exco, senior management and their Business Unit on all corporate and commercial transactions.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • LLB or higher Qualification
    • An admitted Attorney or advocate

    Experience

    • 8 or more years’ post qualification experience and 5 years thereof being in Financial Service Sector
    • An in-depth knowledge and detailed understanding of the mergers and acquisitions (both in country and cross border) and general corporate and commercial transactions in the financial service sector;
    • Management experience; and
    • Expert knowledge of relevant financial services legislation.

    Key Responsibilities

    Management:

    • Managing a team of legal specialists responsible for providing legal support and advice to the Liberty group and its subsidiaries on all corporate transactions;
    • Managing the daily activities of the team including workflow in accordance with agreed service levels with business units;
    • Overseeing the ongoing professional development of the team through informal coaching and training and where required through formal training;
    • Managing all IR aspects regarding team members in consultation with the Group Counsel and HR department.

    Specialist Legal Services:

    • Maintenance of expert knowledge on relevant legislative amendments, industry best practice and provision of proactive and holistic advice and solutions to relevant stakeholders;
    • Proven experience in conducting cross border mergers and acquisitions;
    • Experience dealing with the JSE Listing Requirements and the JSE Debt Listing Requirements;
    • Interaction and engagements with Regulators (ie Competition Commission, Takeover Regulations Panel and PA)

    Additional Responsibilities

    Specialist Legal Services:

    • Understanding and applying relevant legal requirements in the provision of advice, training, publications, legal advice, contracts and product development;
    • Keep abreast of new legislation and regulatory changes and manage the team’s response to this together with Group Legal;
    • Manage legal risk in company policies and procedures of the business;
    • Managing legal costs, litigation and legal advice for internal and external clients when external attorneys are utilized;
    • Manage the drafting and vetting of contracts, corporate transaction documents (ie sale of shares agreement, sale of business agreement, limited partnership agreements, preference share subscription agreements, loan agreements, policies and service level agreements);
    • Managing, editing and writing publications for internal and external use;
    • Responsible for researching complex legal matters and giving input into business projects;

    • Lobbying and giving input to the regulators on legislation in collaboration with Group Legal;
    • Deliver exceptional service that exceeds customers’ expectations through proactive, innovative and appropriate legal solutions;
    • Cultivate and manage objective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including external attorneys and Group Legal Services to ensure that the business is in a position to obtain expert opinion on specialist areas of Law;
    • Translate strategies into actionable goals and execute relevant projects / initiatives aligned to strategic objectives with specific performance measures and control systems to track progress;
    • Comply with governance in terms of legislative and audit requirements;
    • Identify and communicate current and anticipated legal issues or risks;
    • Work collaboratively across Liberty to provide excellent and effective legal advice;
    • Assist and support the General Counsel;
    • Costs management.

    Snr Specialist: IT Systems Developer (Cloud Data Engineer)

    Purpose

    To provide advice and support in area of specialisation and enable the design, creation, development, documentation & testing of programs.

    Responsibilities

    • Design, build and operationalize large scale enterprise data solutions and applications using one or more of AWS data and analytics services in combination with 3rd parties – Glue, Step-functions, Kafka CC,  PySpark, DynamoDB, Delta.io, RedShift, Lambda, DeltaLake, Python,.
    • Analyze, re-architect and re-platform on-premise data warehouses to data platforms on AWS cloud using AWS or 3rd party services and Kafka CC.
    • Design and build production data pipelines from ingestion to consumption within a big data architecture, using Java, PySpark, Scala, Kafka CC.
    • Design and implement data engineering, ingestion and curation functions on AWS cloud using AWS native or custom programming.
    • Perform detail assessments of current state data platforms and create an appropriate transition path to AWS cloud.
    • Design, implement and support an analytical data infrastructure providing ad-hoc access to large datasets and computing power.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Interface with other technology teams to extract, transform, and load data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL , AWS big data technologies and Kafka CC.
    • Creation and support of real-time data pipelines built on AWS technologies including Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, PySpark , Athena and Kafka CC.
    • Continual research of the latest big data and visualization technologies to provide new capabilities and increase efficiency.
    • Working closely with team members to drive real-time model implementations for monitoring and alerting of risk systems.
    • Collaborate with other tech teams to implement advanced analytics algorithms that exploit our rich datasets for statistical analysis, prediction, clustering and machine learning.
    • Help continually improve ongoing reporting and analysis processes, automating or simplifying self-service support for customers.

    Experience

    • Advanced working “data engineering” knowledge and experience working with modern data practices, using Delta.io , CDC management and data load practices.
    • Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets.
    • Experience working with distributed systems as it pertains to data storage and computing.
    • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
    • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, meta data, dependency, and workload management.

    Additional Experience

    • A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large, disconnected data sets.
    • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable Big Data, data stores.
    • Strong project management and organizational skills.
    • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
    • Experience in a Data Engineer or similar roles.
    • Experience with big data tools is a must: Delta.io, PySpark, Kafka, etc.
    • Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres and Cassandra.
    • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools: Step functions , glue workflow  etc.
    • Experience with AWS cloud services: EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other relevant fields.
    • Has experience in any of the following AWS Athena and Glue Pyspark, DynamoDB, Redshift, Lambda, Step Functions and Kafka CC.
    • Proficient in AWS Redshift, S3, Glue, Athena, PySpark , Step Functions , Glue Workflows, Kafka CC, Delta.io Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, devops and operations.

    Senior Specialist: IT Systems Support (Power BI Administrator)

    Purpose

    As a Senior Specialist: IT Systems Support your primary responsibility is to Empower, support and provide Power BI Premium capabilities to the business which supports the data and reporting strategy whilst enforcing rules and adhering to KPIs and SLAs.

    Manage, Maintain, Support the Power BI Premium Capacity and Workspaces along with ensuring secure data controls as well as proper capacity planning and monitoring.

    Responsibilities

    • Actively performs administrative, monitoring, and diagnostic functions in the Power BI Service platform ensuring a health environment and smooth operation.
    • Monitors Power BI Service and Power BI Gateway performance using audit log data, and analyses usage data and trends to derive appropriate courses of action to ensure the system is performing optimally.
    • Power BI Premium/embedded Capacity Utilization Monitoring.
    • Power BI data model security design and performance tuning.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Monitors, the users in the Power BI environment to ensure they are following recommended best practices and policies; and provides feedback to the business community when deviations occur.
    • Create Workspaces & Publish APPS.Install/Upgrade/Maintain PBI Gateway Servers.
    • Create /update Gateway connections.
    • Audit and perform Capacity maintenance & ensure compliance with platform.

    Experience

    • 2 - 5 years of experience supporting the Power BI Premium Platform.
    • Providing overall PowerBI Platform/ System User Support.
    • Experience configuring data gateways for access to multiple data sources across the enterprise.
    • Experience delivering services and solutions using QlickView, Cognos, Power Platform suite with Azure Integrations.
    • Must be able to provide technical expertise on data storage structures, data mining, and data cleansing.

    Purpose

    To provide specialist advice and support in assisting the CIO and the IT team to manage and deliver on medium to complex strategic projects, ensuring the efficient and timeous completion of strategic initiatives.
