    Environmentally Sustainable Design Consultant

    Role Responsibilities

    • Contribute to analysis of client needs and client satisfaction

    Structural Design Engineer

    Junior Environmental Consultant

    Role introduction

    The successful candidate will play a key role in helping Zutari to make an engineered impact.  The successful candidate must be a self-starter and team player who can work under pressure whilst maintaining attention to detail, cost and quality controls. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management and implementation of a range of tasks within broader projects. In fulfilling this responsibility, the candidate will be responsible for assisting with the preparation of regulatory impact assessment reports to obtain approval for new developments or demonstrate compliance with already permitted projects.

    The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of project management (methodology, proposal/ report compilation, budget control, timely completing of project, presentation skills etc.), and have the ability to problem solve where appropriate, work as part of a team, and independently. Experience in public and stakeholder participation, authority consultation and project administration is also required. The candidate will report on a project-to-project basis to a manager.

    The work location for this position is in Zutari offices in Tshwane.

    Minimum requirements, and role responsibilities

    • Recognized Hons or Master’s degree in Environmental Science/ Management.
    • EAPASA and/or Pr.Sci.Nat registered, or in process (proof must be provided).
    • Minimum 2+ years relevant working experience in environmental consultancy environment. 
    • LinkedIn profile fully populated and kept up to date.
    • Must be able to proactively define and articulate environmental impacts through well written inputs into screening studies, Basic Assessment Reports, Scoping Reports, Environmental Impact Assessment Reports and EMPRs. Experience in environmental compliance auditing, environmental control officer responsibilities and/or compilation of Water Use License Applications and e-WULAAS system is considered an advantage.
    • A working knowledge of relevant environmental policies, legislation, regulations, guidelines and standards must be demonstrated.
    • Must be fully conversant in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with graphics software as tools, such as Geographic Information Systems and Power BI, to communicate project findings is considered an advantage.
    • Must have a rudimentary understanding of the linkages and feedback loops between the environmental and planning issues and other non-E&P issues, such as engineering, economic, social, political etc.
    • Must be able to prioritise and systematically organise assigned tasks, recognising how tasks fit into larger scope of projects.
    • Must allocate own time efficiently, implementing effective processes for accomplishing work and proactively communicates status of work.
    • Must have worked on projects across various sectors within South Africa. Experience within the on-shore renewables (including green hydrogen), mining sector and public sector infrastructure development (WWTW, bulk water services, pipelines, transportation developments and road upgrades) is essential.   
    • Must demonstrate experience in developing and compiling technical and financial proposals.
    • Must have excellent communication and report writing skills and be confident to liaise with clients, stakeholders and authorities. Fluency in English (reading, writing and speaking) is required. Competency in other African languages is considered an advantage.

Specifically, this person must have a strong bridge design background and understanding of the construction of bridge and similar structure.     Cost Controller

    Introduction to the role

    You will be required to assist in planning, monitoring and reporting the status of project manhours, indirect costs, capital costs and owner’s costs) by applying relevant cost management methodology, procedures and systems. The supporting and managing multiple major projects and / or provide cost control support to a number of smaller projects and studies to compile and co-ordinate the smooth running of the company projects and studies’ cost reports, in support of the relevant project / study managers. This is a 2-year renewable contract based onsite in Phalaborwa.

    Role responsibilities

    • Assist the lead cost engineer and project controls manager in developing cost control procedures and practices for inclusion in the project management plan. Comply with and carry out regular reviews of the procedures and update as required.
    • Assist with the compilation of the baseline budget to the agreed WBS from the control budget estimate (CBE) that was agreed to by the client for:
    • Liaise with contract administrators and procurement officers to allocate budget amounts for packages.
    • Provide expert cost engineering services to the project.
    • Establish and maintain histograms, S-curves, KPI’s, graphs / curves for recording and monthly status reporting of project costs and forecasting.
    • Facilitate the assessment of forecast to complete (FTC) and forecast at completion (FAC) costs with the relevant project personnel and update the applied project cost control system accordingly.
    • Prepare cost reports showing the original budget, current budget, commitments, FAC, incurred and expended values and variances.
    • Assist in the compilation of project close out reports by preparation and submission of cost control data.

    Minimum requirements

    • A relevant degree in Commerce, Quantity Surveying, Engineering or alternatively a project controls related qualification/certification – CCT / CCP.
    • Minimum of 5 or more years' experience gained in site and/or office environment in design and construct projects delivery in the areas of cost control or alternatively in a cost and management accountant role in the mining, construction or manufacturing industries.
    • Experience using Prism (advantage)
    • SAP Experience
    • Advanced skills in the cost control process of multi-discipline EPCM and EPC projects or alternatively in cost and management accounting processes in the mining, construction, or manufacturing industries.
    • Exposure to the use of commercial cost management software.
    • Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office software.
