    Internal Auditor - Sandton, Johannesburg

    Purpose

    • Responsible for auditing of the governance, financial, business and operational processes at divisional and business unit level within the FirstRand Group.

    Experience and Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification
    • At least 3 years’ experience in internal or external audit preferred. Articles and professional certifications will be advantageous.
    • Experience in banking and financial services environment will be an advantage
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
    • Driver’s license preferred

    Responsibilities

    • Obtain a good understanding of the control environment being audited (including information technology, internal financial control and risk management related aspects), and the interdependencies linked to this.
    • Plan audit assignments based on key process and business risks identified, and design the audit program in line with risks and key controls to be tested.
    • Incorporate data analytics (DA) to enhance audit planning and create efficiencies in audit fieldwork.
    • Execute audit field work in compliance with quality standards by following and completing prepared work programs. Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of governance, risk management practices and internal controls.
    • Provide clear and sufficient audit evidence to support recommendations and audit opinion.
    • Express an opinion based on the results of the work performed.
    • Identify opportunities to improve internal controls, including internal financial controls.
    • Identify and clearly articulate the root cause of issues identified and impact thereof, and recommend changes to business processes that will address the control weaknesses.
    • Prepare a quality and balanced audit report to specified standards, encapsulating the control weaknesses identified and results of audit work performed, with minimal editorial changes.
    • Incorporate fundamental principles, key issues and control themes emanating from other functional areas and assurance providers to ensure relevant & appropriate audit findings.
    • Assist the Head of Internal Audit / Senior Audit Manager / Audit Manager with other operational and reporting activities as required.
    • Identify opportunities for innovation in audit as well as client processes, and develop practical solutions to implement innovative practices.
    • Effective communication with the audit team, audit management and key stakeholders.
    • Is aware of the resources available and is able to utilise them to best effect with guidance from senior audit staff.
    • Keep abreast of emerging industry standards, best practices, industry challenges, upcoming legislation, operational requirements and technology changes related to the internal audit environment .
    • Participate in internal departmental work and key standing tasks such as Board, Risk and Audit Committee reporting, as requested. Stakeholder Excellence

    • Establish and maintain collaborative partnerships and a wide relationship network across business units and within Internal Audit.

    Specialist Model Risk Auditor - Sandton, Johannesburg

    Purpose

    • Credit risk models
    • Market risk models

    • Regulatory and Economic capital models
    • Financial Crime Risk Models   Eachmodel audit assesses: model design, model documentation, quality of modelinputs and data (BCBS239), model implementation (usage) and model governance.Model validations are also performed by the Model Risk Audit Team on Valuation,Hedging, Insurance, Affordability, Impairment (IFRS9) and Pricing models, aswell as Application, Collection and Behavioural scorecards and Propensitymodels. The successful candidate will also, as part of the audits andvalidations, be required to interact with the relevant divisional teams inorder to inform the scope of the assignment to be embarked on.

    Experience and Qualifications

    • A Business Mathematics/Actuarial/Financial Engineering/Informatics/Quantitative Risk Management Degree with majors in Mathematics, Statistics is essential.
    • An Honours Degree would be advantageous.
    • Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. model development, model validation or internal audit.
    • Knowledge of statistical, financial, risk and quantitative methods
    • Experience in using relevant software packages such as SAS, R, VBA and MATLAB.
    • Understanding of Credit, Operational Market and Liquidity Risk models as defined by Basel II & III will be preferable.
    • A comprehensive understanding of the regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements associated with financial services and experience of working within these.

    Responsibilities

    • Investigating key aspect of each model under review: model design, model documentation, quality of model inputs, model implementation and model governance
    • Performing audit fieldwork in terms of the audit program.
    • Documenting the audit testing performed
    • Drafting of audit report: including executive summary and detailed audit findings.
    • Evaluating and monitoring of corrective actions taken to address control weaknesses identified.
    • Attendance of key risk committee and technical risk committee meetings where relevant
    • Interaction with the regulating authorities on model related matters.
    • Maintaining awareness of risk issues and changes across business units within the FirstRand Group, as well as the Financial Industry
    • Seeking out internal and external best practice information to improve the quality of audits and provide customers with world-class perspectives and solutions.
    • Willingness to travel within South Africa and abroad is also essential.

    Data Steward - Sandton, Johannesburg

    Purpose

    • Develop, maintain and implement the ALMA (Asset-Liability Management Analytics)  Data Model on the ALMA platform. The ALMA (Asset-Liability Management Analytics) Architecture team is responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of the ALMA Platform. The ALMA Platform sources transaction data from across the FirstRand group and produces analytics for Funds Transfer Pricing, behavioural analysis and Regulatory and Management reporting. 

    Experience and Qualifications

    • Minimum Qualification - Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistical or Mathematical field.
    • Experience -  6 months – 2 years related experience. Strong SQL skills. MS Office (Power Query, Power Pivot).

    Responsibilities

    • Maintain the ALMA Data Model and related configuration.
    • Maintain the versions of the ALMA Data Requirements.
    • Perform updates on the ALMA Data Model to enhance or resolve exceptions that arise on the ALMA platform.
    • Maintain and update the ALMA data quality (DQ) rules.
    • DQ Exceptions: analyse data quality exceptions, add or amend or relax DQ rules to resolve the exception.
    • Log data quality issues with FCC Operational Risk using the SharePoint Site and provide updates and feedback.
    • Profiler statistics: analyse and resolve the exception.
    • Perform data analysis and validation against business and data rules.
    • Perform data analysis to support evaluation of system defects.
    • Perform functional testing and deployment of changes required.
    • Document data rules, processes and decisions.
