    Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer in Accounting - Qwaqwa

    Duties and responsibilities:

    •     Teach, coordinate, and assess Accounting modules (Financial Accounting, Accounting Ethics, and/or Managerial Accounting) offered by the School of Accountancy.
    •     Contribute to curriculum development and innovation.
    •     Monitor the effectiveness of your pedagogical approach in facilitating student learning to a diverse student body. 
    •     Undertake research and produce scholarly outputs in the field of Accountancy.
    •     Participate in community engagement initiatives.
    •     Perform related administrative duties in the School and Faculty.
    •     Develop and maintain relationships with relevant research communities, the accountancy profession, and professional bodies to establish collaborations and partnerships.
    •     For the senior lecturer appointment, the following additional duties and responsibilities are applicable: 
    •     Perform an academic leadership role in Accounting / Financial Accounting OR Managerial Accounting and Finance, including quality assurance and ensuring that the module offerings respond to the requirements of professional accountancy bodies and the changing world of work.
    •     Supervise postgraduate students with their Honours, Masters or PhD theses or research projects.
    •     Mentor junior staff to achieve their academic/career goals.

    Inherent Job Requirements

    Senior Lecturer:

    •     A PhD in Accountancy on NQF level 10 OR a Chartered Accountant (SA) holding a Master’s degree in Accountancy on NQF level 9 (qualifies for a permanent appointment).

    or 

    •     A Chartered Accountant (SA) holding an Honours degree in Accountancy on NQF level 8 and possessing a track record of academic leadership in professional programmes or possessing extensive practical experience (qualifies for a contract appointment: 5 years, during which a Masters degree on NQF level 9 MUST be obtained to be converted into a permanent position).
    •     Proven experience in the successful facilitation of learning in the field of Accounting / Financial Accounting / Managerial Accounting and Finance.
    •     Has made quality contributions to the advancement of knowledge within the higher education or accountancyinbusiness field.
    •     Has produced high quality publications or reports in the field of accountancy.

    Lecturer:

    •     A Master’s degree in Accountancy on NQF level 9 (qualifies for a permanent appointment). 

    or

    •     A Chartered Accountant (SA) holding an Honours degree in Accountancy on NQF level 8 (qualifies for a contract appointment: 5 years, during which a Masters degree on NQF level 9 MUST be obtained to be converted into a permanent position).
    •     A minimum of three years relevant work experience in industry or teaching experience in a higher education environment.
    •     A good academic record.

    Recommendations:

    •     Recent relevant lecturing experience at an institution of higher learning.
    •     Proven research record of relevant publications in nationally accredited journals.
    •     A commitment to registering for a PhD/ master’s degree in Accountancy at the first available 
    • opportunity if not yet attained by the time of the appointment.

    Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (3-year Contract)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Work with researchers in the History Department to conduct research on the University of the Free State.
    • Expected to author/co-author at least three (3) peer-reviewed, DHET-accredited journal articles or books chapters in books annually, though this requirement will be negotiated in accordance with phase of the research.
    • Register and reside as a postdoctoral research fellow at the UFS and participate in relevant activities of the Department of History, the Research Project on the Histories of Universities in South Africa, the School of Postgraduate Studies and the Directorate of Research.
       

    Minimum Requirements:

    • The Fellowship is open to South Africans and Foreign nationals for full-time research at the UFS.
    • Candidates must have graduated with a PhD degree in a relevant discipline within the last five years.
    • Candidates must possess a working knowledge of Afrikaans, as much of the archival materials are in Afrikaans.
    • Successful applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the Fellowship.
    • Successful applicants will be required to be based at the UFS (Bloemfontein campus) for the duration of the fellowship.
       

    Value of the fellowship:

    • R 220,000 annual fellowship.
    • R 30,000 additional research expenses fund.
