    Data Scientist

    Job description

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    A Data Scientist that will deliver business value through an Information Analytics team that is part of the corporate IT function. This team will provide advice, guidance and delivery capabilities to the business around issues and opportunities that increase the competitive advantage through the use of business intelligence and advanced analytics.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a Degree/BTECH/National Diploma with at least 5 years’ experience working in quantitative roles;
    • Qualification in multi-disciplines - e.g. mathematics, economics, econometrics, statistics, computer science, engineering, business, business intelligence and applied statistics is essential.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Provide support to develop, implement and maintain a data analytics culture to seek answers to business challenges and opportunities;
    • Identifies continuous improvement ideas – with accountability to take them from inception to execution;
    • Diagnose business problems through structured and systematic data analysis and operational analytics capability that is robust, repeatable and auditable;
    • Perform data wrangling and extract exploratory insights from big data while understanding business drivers and measures of success;
    • Engage with the business to seek answers to business challenges and opportunities;
    • Create statistical and machine learning models in multiple technologies to support business goals;
    • Create data visualisations in multiple technologies to support business understanding and useability;
    • Scenario and relationship analysis (designs new scenarios, identifies emerging solutions to improve system intelligence);
    • Derive optimum performance parameters for existing processes through scientific analysis;
    • Test logic and apply decision making of new code and provide input/feedback to IT Systems specialists.

    Visualisation Engineer - Johannesburg

    Job description

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a Degree/BTECH/National Diploma with at least 5 years’ experience working in quantitative roles;
    • Qualification in multi-disciplines - e.g. mathematics, economics, econometrics, statistics, computer science, engineering, business, business intelligence and applied statistics is essential;
    • 3+ years of IT Industry experience with 2+ years of Business Intelligence experience is essential.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Design, develop, maintain and administer reporting applications, including standard reports, dashboards and scorecards, adhering to BI and data presentation standards and governance;
    • Participate in requirements gathering sessions with business users; elicit, document and analyse data presentation and reporting requirements;
    • Manage BI/report development through all phases of project delivery, demonstrating an ability to translate requirements to other BI/report developers;
    • Passion to learn, analyse and understand business processes, measures and KPIs;
    • Create, modify and understand complex data models, with emphasis on dimensional models;
    • Create reporting mock-ups in a variety of mediums;
    • Practice and foster a sense of self-sufficiency for the end-customer (self service).
