The role:

• The Strata Control Specialist is responsible to assist the Rock Engineering Specialist and/or Rock Engineer to put measures in place for the prevention of falls of ground on the operations allocated to him/her through providing effective input into Rock Engineering designs as well as support systems and layouts for the allocated Operations.

The duties will include but are not limited to:

• Comply with and ensure adherence to safety regulations
• Adhere to corporate governance implementation
• Conduct Inspections of roof quality and opencast high walls
• Ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all underground and open cast workers
• Ensure and enforce compliance and adherence to legislative requirements
• Compliance with the Emergency Preparedness and Response requirements
• Ensure the effective management of contractors
• Ensure change management process is implemented and communicated
• Conduct quality inspections to ensure compliance to the company’s Rock Engineering specifications
• Analysis of trends (I.e., Safety, Cost, Production, People)
• To collect samples, analyse and report test results of mine support materials and comply to ISO 9001 requirements
• Interact with customers and familiarise yourself with operational concerns and any inherent peculiarities (e.g. HSEC & ISO issues)
• Budgetary control for laboratory materials
• Produce monthly invoices
• Conduct quality assurance tests on support materials
• Participate in and maintain compliance with a support quality assurance system (ISO)
• Participate in investigation (RCFA) of failed support units
• Participate in investigation (RCFA) for high wall failures
• Draft 1SAP reports as identified and specified
• Develop quality controls to ensure alignment of operational Rock Engineering interventions, systems and processes with standardization requirements as well as policies, procedures and operating standards
• Analyse and interpret Rock Engineering data and information to identify changes in the production environment, defects, and safety risks
• Conduct regular inspections and ensure problems are addressed proactively and aligned with Rock Engineering requirements
• Ensure that operating standards, policies, and procedures are appropriate and clearly understood
• Ensure that all activities are performed in line with the Mine Health and Safety Act, and Minerals Act
• Provide coaching and advice to operational stakeholders related to strata control services and support aligned to best practices
• Provide input into the development of safety standards, processes, policies, and procedures

You will need:

• Grade 12 with Math (Not Math Literacy) and Science or N3 with Math & Science
• Chamber of Mines Certificate in Strata Control (Coal)/COM SCO (Coal)
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in Rock Engineering within the Coal mining industry
• SANIRE membership
• In-depth understanding of relevant safety and mining legislation including: The Mine Health and Safety Act and the Minerals and Energy Act
• A valid driver’s license
• In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness

Advantageous:

• BSc Degree/National Diploma in Mining Engineering or 2 Papers of COMREC or Mine Overseer Certificate or Mine Managers Certificate
• Practical Mining Production experience
• Good knowledge of Seriti Safety and Sustainable development policies, procedures and standards

The role:

• Responsible for executing production or logistics activities according to the Schedule and operate the physical assets, plant and equipment as defined by HSEC equipment’s, the Operation’s standards and operating procedures.

The duties will include but are not limited to:

• Must be able to operate different Trucks
• Work under physically uncomfortable conditions (Vibrations)
• Count and record loads
• Required to complete all operations from Extraction to Exposure and vice versa
• Additional required to do construction work
• Diagnose the machine to report to Artisan
• Test drive the machines after the Artisan attendance
• Use Nozzle to refill diesel
• Loading discard and burning coal
• Inspect and ensure that the working is safe
• Ensure compliance to safety procedures
• Operating continuously 12 hours inclusive of 1hour break
• Report all machine defects to the Supervisor and control room
• Adhere to instructions from his/ her direct Supervisor
• It’s a support equipment to shovel and loader, no truck, no shovel / loader operations
• Operate equipment, valuates onsite conditions, makes tactical decisions and determines appropriate responses
• Responsible for adhering to operational requirements, principles and procedures, maintenance and training in the use of appropriate personal protection equipment
• Responsible for upkeep of equipment and securely stored
• Ensure that maintenance checks are scheduled and completed at the required standard
• Look at task list and list priorities for the day and record the findings on a pre- shift check book

You will need:

• Grade 12
• Valid Driver’s License
• Rigid Dump Truck License / Certificate of Competency
• In possession of or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
• Subject to a Dover test and must meet the minimum requirements
• Demonstrate oral English language proficiency

The role:

• To execute production activities according to the Schedule and operate the physical assets and equipment as defined by HSEC requirements, the Operation’s standards and operating procedures

The duties will include but are not limited to:

• Operate the excavator machine
• Loading of truck as instructed
• Execute the production and / or logistics activities according to the Schedule and only where competent to do so
• Work with physical assets, plant and equipment as defined by the Operation’s standards and operating procedures
• Assist to develop and enhance work practices and procedures
• Review and update plans and equipment history and communicate status to appropriate parties
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all events and hazards
• Review and request updates to Work Management and other Master Data as required achieving timely and accurate execution of work orders (e.g. capturing time and attendance as well as all transactional data about work performed)
• Conduct the pre-shift checks
• Look at task list and list priorities for the day and record the findings on a pre-shift check book
• Complete pre-shift report prior to operating machine
• If working in high wall area, check for cracks and spillages – if they exist, inform Supervisor
• Removing and separation of rocks from the coal and from tranches
• Remove / clean spoils / materials from the high wall
• Build safety beams to divide roads
• Transport topsoil

You will need:

• Grade 12 with Mathematics
• Valid driver’s license is essential
• Valid Excavator license
• Minimum of 1 year experience in operating an Excavator within a mining environment
• In possession of or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
