    Workshop Supervisor

    The Big Picture:

    Howden Africa Compressor & Turbine Division is looking for a Workshop Supervisor to manage shop floor personnel, material & machines to manufacture designed products within budget to customer requirements. Provide a safe working environment for workshop personnel. The position will be based in Sasolburg.

    What needs to be done?

    • Co-ordinate sequence of manufacture, verify all material received for manufacturing, to ensure that there are no delays in the manufacturing of products within agreed time framework and within estimated costs.
    • Calculate / estimate material and resources required for the order to ensure the job is manufactured within estimated costs to ensure correct margins is achieved.
    • Purchase material and sub contract work in time to ensure no delays occur and jobs are delivered on time
    • Hand over the drawings, WDP, material, hours provided, assignment and feedback to artisans to the effect that work is carried out to set standards within agreed time framework.
    • Quality control, coaching and monitor welding processes, check & verify products that are ready for dispatch. Liaise with inspectors & NDT technicians to ensure the risk is minimised and the workshop standards meet Howden Standards & customer requirements.
    • Manage workshop personnel, i.e. leave, employee relations, training requirements. Prepare overtime list and sign timesheets. Ensure staff are motivated, positive, focused & well informed.
    • Ensure & implement environmental, health and safety standards to ensure that the company comply with relevant legislation requirements and company policies to provide a safe working environment to all employees.
    • Monitor & control departmental expenditures to ensure that the department meets or exceeds the annual purchasing budget.
    • Maintain workshop machines in good working order and draw up Capex applications as and when required. Maintain a maintenance schedule on all machines.
    • Maintain all workers qualifications to ensure they are qualified to do the required work.
    • SOX Compliance: Adhere to Sarbanes Oxley and AX controls

    What do you need to bring?

    • Grade 12 Certificate
    • N3 – N6 qualification
    • Qualified Fitter and Turner.
    • 5 years as a Workshop Supervisor within a fitting and manufacturing environment
    • Industrial engineering experience
    • Proficiency in interpretation of drawings and subsequent calculation of material and process requirements.
    • Coaching skills
    • Expert understanding of the tools / machines used for the various functions.
    • Computer literate (Intermediate level)

    Technical Buyer - JBH

    Howden Power is looking for a Technical Buyer responsible for the purchasing of goods, materials and services to ensure that the company operational needs are met, taking into account price, quality and delivery and to ensure continuity of supply.

    What needs to be done?

    • Manage the buying process for a given set of goods in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets.
    • Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations.
    • Apply sourcing policy, interface between supplier and entity with respect to specifications and budgets.
    • Research and evaluate areas of opportunity and reduce costs where possible.
    • Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships.

    What do you need to bring?

    Aftermarket Engineer

    The Big Picture:

    Howden Power, a Division of Howden Africa (Pty) Lt is looking for an experienced Aftermarket Engineer to provide a competent engineering and design resource to external and internal clients.

    What needs to be done?

    • Provide engineering support to Service, Spares and Manufacturing departments.
    • Knowledge of Howden products, specifically application thereof on mines, steel industry, gas cleaning, etc.
    • Carry out Engineering tasks and investigations to assist Howden’s effort at supporting Howden aftermarket business.
    • Lead major investigations and projects from an Engineering perspective.
    • Undertake new equipment selections & designs to produce a fit-for-purpose end product per the user specification
    • Assess the condition of existing equipment & generate repair procedures & reports to produce a fit-for-purpose reconditioned product.
    • Check & approve (sign-off) designs, repair procedures, drawings & other engineering tasks performed by others to ensure correctness & that errors are not carried through to production.
    • Provide workable engineering solutions to problems experienced by both internal & external clients to ensure their needs are met
    • Develop external client relationships to promote the Howden product range & with the view to introducing enhancements to existing equipment
    • Lead, mentor, delegate & monitor progress of tasks assigned to less experienced engineering staff to ensure an even workload spread for the department & assist with their development 
    • Provide expert power plant process knowledge as applied to the Howden product range to ensure equipment operation is in keeping with design intentions
    • Develop & revise Engineering Department documentation (e.g. specifications, design manuals, welding procedures, software etc.) to ensure they are relevant & up-to-date
    • Adhere to Howden/customer/statutory procedures, instructions, quality and safety standards.

    What do you need to bring?

    • BSc/ BEng qualification in Mechanical Engineering
    • 5-8 years experience in heavy engineering workshop
    • FEA design and analysis experience
    • Ability to interact independently and to provide support directly with clients, specifically in the mining area
    • Proficient in MS Office especially PowerPoint presentations
    • Vibration and welding knowledge and experience
    • Demonstrate understanding of products, application and solutions in an open forum
    • Valid driver’s license

    Senior Project Engineer

    The Big Picture:

    Howden Power, a Division of Howden Africa (Pty) Ltd is looking for a Senior Project Engineer to manage service related projects as allocated, from project inception to completion and ensure to generate revenue and agreed margin. Provide a safe working environment for all Howden staff whilst working on these projects.

    What needs to be done?

    • Responsible for leading all project aspects
    • Act as the primary point of contact between the customer and the Project Team. Ensure allocated customers involvement / intelligence / influence.
    • Make independent decisions regarding the direction and scope of the project that could have a significant impact upon project cost and schedule as per the company guidelines.
    • Responsible for the allocation of tasks and the team’s performance against the plan.
    • Monitor progress, recognize and assist in the resolution of issues and problems, and report at appropriate intervals.
    • Approve the Project Management Plan and reviews updates before submitting the updates
    • Regularly tracks project progress against the project management plan.
    • Identify variances from the Project Management Plan (baseline)
    • Review and submit revised project management plans (baseline) as a result of changes.
    • Identify the specific actions required to produce the project deliverables.
    • Review, approve and issue the project’s schedule. Optimize and manage the project schedule with the assistance of the Planner
    • Identify project deliverables and processes that will require resources.
    • Prepare the activity resource requirements for the project with input from the project team ( Ops Manager, Site Manager, Supervisor and planner).

    What do you need to bring?

    • BSc/ BTech Degree in Mechanical Engineering

    Management Accountant

    The Big Picture:

    Howden Power, a Division of Howden Africa (Pty) Ltd is looking for an experienced Management Accountant to support the Senior Management Accountant and Financial Director in the management accounting and financial reporting for the division and ensuring the integrity of the information. Daily management of a large number of individual projects from order intake to final closure and revenue recognition and related financial transactions and play an active role in project margin reviews, analysing and explaining changes to budget and providing accurate information to be used in forecasting. Participate in the month end close, forecast and budget development and ensuring proper internal controls are in place to safeguard the Company’s assets.

    What needs to be done?

    • Perform daily, weekly and monthly processes in the financial ERP system to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of project information.
    • Actively participate in project cost reviews, working closely with the project managers, analyse and report any cost change to budget and the impact on profitability.
    • Develop actions from project cost reviews to mitigate potential risk areas in terms of project margin accuracy, revenue recognition, on-time project delivery and related accruals and provision requirements.
    • Perform month end close transactions required on the ERP system to accurately report on project revenue and margin.
    • Ensure manual and system transaction accounts reconcile to applicable reports. Reports and reconciliation of accounts are to be reviewed with management.
    • Close all open accounting issues prior to or on the last day of the month. Close working relationship with Operational Project Management Team required.
    • Explain any variances to forecast and budget. Issue reports as required.
    • Prepare routine journal entries.
    • Process CRS reporting requirements.
    • Prepare weekly / monthly project execution performance reviews with project managers.
    • Ensure accurate weekly operational reporting, i.e. Order intake, Project Work-In-Progress, Project Work-In-Hand and Project Sales and Margin reports.
    • Prepare monthly reports ASGISA, Statistics SA and other external reporting requirements.
    • Participate in the preparation of the monthly forecast, strategic plan and annual budget.
    • Perform capital expenditure / ROIC reviews (as necessary) for proposed capital projects and track ROIC performance of implemented capital projects
    • Coordinate / address any issues in processes and systems with fellow management accountants and financial managers.
    • Develop, maintain and distribute management reports as necessary to support the ongoing business and continuous improvement initiatives.

    What do you need to bring?

    • Qualified Accountant (CA or CIMA) with a minimum of 3-5 years PQE.
    • IFRS, GAAP and US GAAP up to date knowledge.
    • Sarbanes Oxley compliance experience and application of key controls.
    • Experience of system implementations and support within a full lifecycle ERP solution.
    • Experience of working in a project costing environment. Percentage of Completion calculations, WIP reporting.
    • Technically and commercially strong.
    • Ability to make quick and clear decisions.
    • Confident and able communicator who can influence and persuade others.
    • Professional approach to reporting.
    • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
