    Senior Data Scientist

    The Opportunity 
    In this role you will identify machine learning R&D initiatives that have high potential to applicability in the industry. Use the latest advances in deep learning, reinforcement learning and AI to solve business problems. Work with Data Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers and designers to build end-to-end analytics solutions for our clients that drive real impact in the real world. 

    In this role you will: 

    • Conduct optimization exercises in the studies stages, incorporating an appreciation of factors such as cost-volume relationships, capital designed relationships and mining ore body and processing signature characteristics.  
    • Maintain a Project Execution Control framework to facilitate world class delivery of capital projects.  
    • Frame a universally applicable approach to influence and align design and study phases and proactively set up the construction phases for success to optimize project delivery.  
    • Actively apply expert knowledge and thought leadership to challenge paradigms and lead project teams in the application of conventional and novel methodologies in exploring constructability options that will expedite project execution and realise capital savings.  
    • Lead the analysis and identification of opportunities to enable step changes in value realization by creating novel management and technical pathways for the integration and/or adaptation of execution cycle time activities and sequencing to drive cost reduction, mitigate project risk and ensure sustainability of operations post commissioning.  
    • Apply rigorous assessment of project teams to ensure that they have the required capability, are optimally integrated and focussed on driving value. 
    • Initiate decisive action to address any shortcomings by advising project leadership on options to restore team integrity.  

     Your training, skills & expertise checklist: 

    • An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors/Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant subject area including Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or another quantitative field. Masters or PHD would be beneficial. 
    • 5+ years of experience manipulating data sets and building statistical models. 
    • Significant experience querying databases and using statistical computer languages: R, Python, SLQ, etc. 
    • Experience creating and using advanced machine learning algorithms and statistics: regression, simulation, scenario analysis, modelling, clustering, decision trees, neural networks, etc.  
    • Strong skills with distributed data/computing tools: Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Gurobi, MySQL, etc. 
    • Demonstrated experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders using: Periscope, Business Objects, D3, ggplot, etc.  
    • Experience in mining processes and mining vendors knowledge is beneficial. 
    • Multi-tasking and excellent management of personal time and priorities is essential. 
    • Ability to travel to site on a regular basis. 
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills that work effectively with technical and non-technical audiences. (English)

    Senior Automation Engineer

    The Opportunity 

    In this role you will develop, improve and sustain virtual sensing opportunities by the use of data techniques or ML modelling in collaboration with the Digital and Automation teams. Partner with assets to review manual processes and identify opportunities for automation. Apply a full range of intelligent process automation and advanced process control technologies to design and develop automation solutions. 

    In this role you will: 

    • Perform commissioning, verification and validation of advanced process control implementations across fixed assets.  
    • Design APC solutions, including control strategies and implementation of technologies from multiple vendors to optimise process performance. 
    • Build and simulation of first principles models to validate and improve new and current control strategies. 
    • Trouble-shoot and challenge equipment/automation issues to improve performance of fixed and mobile assets.  
    • Provide support as a representative providing technical assistance in fulfilling the automation requirements for the asset and digital automation team. 
    • Collaborate with the Automation, Data Science and Data Engineering teams in building an internal optimisation technology stack for Glencore assets. 
    • Design and deploy virtual sensing strategies and machine vision solutions to improve data gathering and integrity gathering across mobile and fixed assets. 
    • Execution and guidance of sensor and IoT technological surveillance. 
    • Lead, guide, configure and tune multivariable predictive controller loops parameters in collaboration with Glencore local OT teams. 
    • Review automation documents, preventative maintenance and SOPs to ensure compliance with safety and cybersecurity policies. 
    • Develop and support corrective actions for investigations related to automation for IT/OT systems. 

     Your training, skills & expertise checklist: 

    • An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors/Honours degree or equivalent) in Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical, or Electronics. Postgraduate qualification will be a plus. 
    • 8+ years of engineering experience preferred. 
    • A minimum of three (3) years electrical, instrumentation and control systems preferred.  
    • Experience with the development and implementation of advanced process control including multivariable predictive controller, empirical dynamic process models and PID loops. 
    • Demonstrated experience with Remote Server Managers, Virtual Machines (VMs), Servers, Network Radios and Switches.  
    • Knowledge leveraging advanced AI or ML algorithms into controls strategies is a plus. 
    • Experience with R, Python, C and other programming languages is a plus. 
    • Background in Project Management and Lean/Six Sigma skills is helpful. 
    • Ability to travel to site on a regular basis. 
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills that work effectively with technical and non-technical audiences. (English)
