    Superintendent Engineering Project Governance

    A stimulating career opportunity exists for a suitable candidate to assist the Unit Manager with the Engineering Projects portfolio in line with project management standards and methodologies.  The suitable candidate will also oversee all relevant assets, and functionally input into the Project Management Office, and develop and maintain Assurance Systems. The Superintendent will have the opportunity to form part of, and input into a dynamic technical team in the second largest underground gold mine in the world with world class innovation and technology.  
     
    Minimum Requirements:

    • Degree/BTech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering disciplines
    • Government Certificate of Competency in Mines and Works
    • 3 years’ experience in developing assurance systems in line with relevant legislation
    • 5 years’ experience in heavy mobile equipment within a trackless mining environment
    • Proven track record in managing or directing medium to large scale Stay-In-Business and Expansion Projects
    • Proven track record or intermediate working knowledge of Business Improvement methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and the environment, as determined by the risk based medical examination at the relevant Gold Fields Occupational Health and Safety Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening Test

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    Safety

    • Participate in, and lead various Safety, Health and Environmental campaigns
    • Actively demonstrate Visible Felt Leadership to instil a pervasive commitment to safety and positive working behaviours Project Management
    • Manage all Stay-In-Business projects from conception to commissioning, hand over to operations and project close out
    • Coordinate all technical design activities on assigned projects, plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate the engineering design and project management on projects
    • Stakeholder Management
    • Procurement - manage contracts, scope development, monitor performance and closing out
    • Project Risk – identification of risks and communicating to stakeholders
    • Conduct project risk assessments and develop mitigation plans (including HAZOPs).
    • Implementing risk management plans, governance, and compliance to company policies and relevant legislation
    • Conducting quality assurance and control
    • Arranging and attending project technical workshops and updates

    Assurance

    •  Accountable for the governance of all relevant assets to ensure:
    • Productivity and maximising ROI
    • Asset safety and auditing
    • Effective risk management
    • Explore and recommend reduced energy usage
    • Driving decision making regarding asset strategies
    • Responsible for establishing and implementing an Asset/Assurance Management framework in line with Business Strategy

    Development and implementation of asset/assurance management systems, in particular:

    • Capital allocation
    • Project management
    • Responsible for procurement and initiate selling of assets

    Other

    • Maintenance and development of systems, including administration and training for new users
    • Maintenance and development of PMO SharePoint sites, including managing the data organisation and access requests
    • Work closely with cross-functional departments to drive business improvement initiatives
    • Provide detailed information regarding the Routine Operating Schedule, as well as visibility of outputs from the Operating Master Schedule and Expenditure Schedule
    • Facilitate operational planning across the department for key inputs to scheduled work in the Operating Master Schedule
    • Monitor and improve the effectiveness of the Operational Planning processes within the department

    Manager Engineering

    The Engineering Manager – Shafts is accountable for designing, operating and optimising the South Deep Mine Shafts, Ground Handling and related Infrastructure systems.  This includes the installation, maintenance and modification of all mechanical and electrical equipment and systems.  Drawing off an established shaft production and engineering track record, the incumbent is required to initiate and lead the technical evaluation of existing and new equipment and technologies, conducting relevant operational benchmarking and best practice studies, and leading integrated Asset Optimisation projects to attain optimal equipment efficiencies and production outcomes. As Senior Manager, the successful incumbent will also be accountable for driving a culture of safety, productivity, and respect within the organization, ensuring that these values are embedded in all aspects of operations.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Post Graduate degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
    • Professional registration with a recognised Engineering Professional Body (ECSA, AMRE, SAIEE)
    • Government Certificate of Competence – Mines & Works
    • 10 years operational experience in a mining, minerals processing or heavy industry engineering environment; of which 5 years should have been at middle management level
    • Proven track record in managing vertical shaft winders and associated shaft infrastructure
    • Advanced proficiency in large Stay-In-Business and/or Major Capital Project Delivery
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

    Key Competencies:

    • Identify asset and operational improvement requirements and incorporate into the planning and preparation of short-, medium- and long-term engineering working cost and capital budgets and prepare business plans to achieve objectives
    • Participate in and lead regular and ad hoc short, medium and long-term operational planning and scheduling sessions with a focus on actively identifying and collaboratively solving operational delivery and value chain optimisation challenges
    • Stay abreast of advances and developments in engineering methodologies, techniques and technology to discern industry leading practices in relation to operations optimisation, maintenance, control and automation and mechanisation for adoption and application at South Deep
    • Continuously explore and develop comprehensive energy and environmental saving strategies to effectively reduce the cost, consumption and emissions as per legislative requirements
    • Manage stakeholder relationships with key internal, Business Partner and external stakeholders by ensuring broad accountability is maintained against operational delivery, service level, commercial, community and ethical standards

    Stock Expeditor

    The Stock Expeditor will be accountable for expediting the receipt and dispatching of stock orders, replensihing low stock volumes and, following up on overdue orders

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Be in possession of a Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Minimum of two (2) years’ administrative or related experience in a stores/inventory management environment
    • Experience with SAP and Materials Management System
    • Valid EB Driver’s license

    • Expedite urgent deliveries for safety and production critical material
    • Update delivery dates on SAP as per feedback from suppliers and attach relevant correspondence
    • Assist to check, monitor and verify correctness of  invoices and delivery notes captured on the system relating to stock purchase orders
    • Escalated non-compliances, abnormal stock requests, queries and unsuccessful deliveries to Inventory Supervisor

    Project Officer

    The Project Officer is actively involved and provides support in the execution of projects within required timelines and budget. This includes the management of various administrative tasks, collaboration with various stakeholders and reporting of status reports. A core accountability of this role is to maintain the highest possible safety standards while creating value for the business

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent qualification
    • Project Management certification or qualification
    • Minimum of 3 years’ project management experience within a mining or engineering environment

    • Management of all aspects of project implementation including stakeholder management, communication management, service provider management and HR requirements
    • Track milestones and timelines across projects and institute necessary workflow, personnel, and financial resource allocations
    • Liaise with the procurement department throughout the procurement process including creating purchase requisitions, conducting technical adjudications and presenting business cases
    • Administer the project scope through stakeholder management, providing inputs into the project scope to procure equipment and services for project and business intent
    • Conducting project risk analysis and escalating risks timeously
    • Develop, update and report on project timelines and resources schedules required to successfully execute assigned projects
    • Provide timeously and accurate status reports to management and pro-actively advise on project delays and penalties
    • Analysis of data and regular reporting of relevant compliance in the area of responsibility
    • Preparation and execution of schedules for projects and critical path management
    • Administration of contracts, budget and projects in area of responsibility
    • Input into the developing and maintaining of capital plans
