    Senior Technical Writer - Modderfontein

    Job Description    

    • Developing comprehensive content that meets organisational standards.
    • Obtaining a deep understanding of DetNet’s products and services to translate complex product information into simple, polished, and engaging content.
    • Creating user-friendly content that meets the needs of the target audience, turning insights into language that sets users up for success.
    • Reviewing and contributing to marketing material, website content and relevant documents to be published.
    • Develop and update engineering technical documentation and specifications including user training manuals and related training material.
    • Evaluating current content and developing innovative approaches for improvement.
    • Responsible for researching, outlining, writing, and editing of new and existing content.
    • Working closely with various departments to understand project requirements.
    • Independently gather information from subject matter experts to develop, organise and compile the relevant documentation.
    • Researching, creating, and maintaining information architecture templates that uphold organisational and legal standards.
    • Developing content in alternative media forms for maximum usability, with a consistent and cohesive voice across all documentation.
    • Maintaining product knowledge base and website content to ensure they are aligned with product releases.
    • Produce and edit presentations for sales, marketing purposes and training purposes, ensuring compliance to corporate guidelines.
    • Generate diagrams and visual interpretations of process flows.
    • Meet with channel representatives, vendors, design engineers and production to establish user requirements, system requirements and other technical reports.
    • Study drawings, specifications, mock-ups, and product samples to integrate in manuals.
    • Ensure technical verbiage is easy to understand by the layperson.
    • Review published materials and recommended revisions or changes in scope, format and content.
    • Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts to illustrate material.
    • Attend trial blasts and channel partner workshops to gain first hand product knowledge.
    • Developing and maintaining database in document control system for new documents, tracking reviews and approval phase until final release to market.

    Qualifications & Experience    

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related fields.
    • Certificate in Occupational Directed Education/ Training and Development Practices an advantage.
    • 5 years’ experience in a technical writing role.
    • Long and short copywriting experience.
    • Adept at Microsoft applications, specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Visio CorelDRAW or InDesign / Photoshop knowledge.
    • Able to adapt and deliver content for various channels, such as online print and email.
    • Marketing experience will be advantageous.
    • Knowledge of search engine optimisation (SEO) and writing SEO.
    • Basic HTML or web design experience.
