Senior Specialist: DevOps Engineer at Telkom

Core Description  
The role is responsible for delivering, maintaining, and optimizing infrastructure and database capabilities to support and enable the development and operations of applications driving the business. This role is also responsible for reviewing solution designs, understanding their impact on application/infrastructure; building and implementing infrastructure and applications, and monitoring, maintaining, and supporting the operational environments. The Senior DevOps Engineer will work with developers, application owners, vendors, and other engineers to build DevOps pipelines for deploying and managing applications. This role will be a custodian and thus be required to define and implement DevOps processes and associated governance.
Competencies    
FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE:
• Significant experience designing and supporting development, QA, pre and production environments
• Strong coding skills in line with relevant Toolchain tools
• Experience developing collaboratively, including infrastructure as code
• Templating and automation tools for deploying and managing infrastructure and applications
• Experienced with building CI/CD pipelines preferably with native tools
• Deep experience with public identity and access management
• Experience with key and certificate management
• Familiar with monitoring applications using native, open source, and 3rd party tools
• Deep knowledge of platform APIs and automation
• Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and tools

FUNCTIONAL SKILLS:
• Virtualization and infrastructure technologies, e.g. Windows, Linux, VMWare, Xen, KVM, Docker, Kubenetes, Vagrant.
• Experience in monitoring technologies and APM tools
• Experience in building, managing and supporting cloud-based solutions on Public and private cloud IaaS and PaaS deployment models and technologies, e.g. Open stack, AWS and Azure
• Experience administering and deploying development CI/CD tools such as Git, Jira, GitLab, or Jenkins
• Hands-on experience Micro-services architecture and Containers
• Significant experience with Windows and Linux operating system environments
• Experience with infrastructure scripting solutions such as PowerShell or Python

Job Responsibilities    
• Ensuring availability, performance, sustainability and accessibility of application systems/services
• Ensuring necessary operational controls and governance are in place and policies to ensure alignment
• Managing and overseeing the service transition process of services into the production environment.
• Monitor and maintain infrastructure performance, capacity and availability, providing 2nd and 3rd level support for the resolution of application and infrastructure-related incidents and problems
• Managing and remediating on security threats and vulnerabilities, and applying all required security controls in accordance with policy
• Ensuring effective monitoring of services and applications
• Design and develop the test automation to validate the builds in the CI/CD pipeline
• Work closely with development teams to ensure that solutions are designed with customer user experience, scale/performance and operability in mind
• Working with application developers and owners to understand requirements
• Developing automated deployment and monitoring of infrastructure and applications
• Automating systems configuration and orchestration using tools, such as Ansible
• Automated creation of machine images and Containers
• Designing CI/CD pipelines to include application and security testing, and gates
• Implementation of availability, security, and performance monitoring and alerting
• Automating data resiliency and replication based on policies
• Management and operation of development, QA and production environments
• Mentor, guide and support team members
• Responsible for the DevOps portfolio including management and development of its personnel
Required Certification    
Cloud, Infrastructure, DevSecOps accreditations or certification advantageous
Qualifications    
3year IT related Diploma/Degree required
Experience    
• 7+ years overall experience in professional software engineering environment
• 5+ years’ relevant experience in developing, deploying and / or administering infrastructure solutions
• Experience of current and emerging virtualization, infrastructure, cloud and containerization technologies such as AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
• Experience working closely with agile methodologies, such as Scrum, SAFe, XP.
• Experience in leveraging DevSecOps and Continuous Delivery / Integration / Automation
