    Senior Production Manager (Traction Motors)

    The primary focus of this position is to plan, lead and control the Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) of the relevant areas of control within the  motor’s process, using the guiding principles defined in APSYS (Alstom Performance System).
    Main Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) being Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, People development and Continuous Improvement.

    • Up and downstream process Workshop Managers
    • Various departments including - Quality, Supply Chain Management, Industrialization, HR, Maintenance, EHS and IT
    • Union representatives
    • External service providers

     Measurement
    Performance will be measured against the quantitative and qualitative business plan targets for the relevant department

    Tasks & Responsibilities:

    • Ensure that the Targets (Quality, Cost, Delivery) are achieved in the area responsibility.
    • Train and develop people within the team
    • Maintain safety standards in responsibility
    • Drive cost improvement initiatives through PDCA and continuous improvement practices
    • Maintain equipment standards (through TPM schedules)
    • Maintain lead time plan of the jobs in responsibility
    • Maintain task sequencing and task allocation in responsibility
    • Ensure all agreed production standards (APSYS) are maintained and adhered to

     Minimum Requirements:

    • Relevant Diploma / Degree (preferably Mechanical / Electrical/ Industrial Engineering)
    • MDP or relevant Business management qualification will be an added advantage
    • Minimum of 5 years manufacturing and people management  experience
    • Preference will be given to candidates with management experience gained in a lean manufacturing environment
    • Ability to lead and motivate a group of approx. 70 people towards achieving set of predefined targets
    • Practical, working knowledge and understanding of labour-relations policies and procedures in the South African labor context
    • Ability to collect, organize and analyze existing production data, as well as lead the team in identifying root causes

     Skills and Competencies:

    • Able to communicate effectively at different levels with the organisation
    • Display high levels of integrity, ethics and morals
    • Must be extremely disciplined with regards to time management
    • Have high regard for customer/ supplier relationships
    • Knowledgeable of best practice principles
    • Flexible to work outside normal operational boundaries to support team targets
    • Display strong business acumen, particularly with regards to cost consciousness, efficiency improvements and profit generation
    • Cross functional/discipline skills
    • Good conceptual thinking, analytical, decision-making & problem-solving skills
    • Must be MS Office Literate
