Job Description
Develop and implement data management solutions using data from multiple sources to provide the business with accurate, complete and up to date data. Maintain effective relationship with assigned data specialists and super users to enable the effective utilisation of available tools and to write efficient programming code.
Job Purpose
Develop and implement data management solutions using data from multiple sources to provide the business with accurate, complete and up to date data
Identify sources of data to be extracted into the EDW/Data Lake in line with business requirement(s).
Understand interdependencies of source data tables (ERD) and how it relates to providing accurate, complete, relevant and up to date data.
Design and implement data structures and procedures that ensure integrity of data and allows ease of consumption of data.
Create programming code to extract data from data sources and transform where required to ensure that the data can be consumed within the EDW/Data Lake.
Test data for completeness and accuracy as part of the extraction processes and as part of the transform and loading processes.
Code, compile, test and implement applications in compliance with the Systems Development life Cycle (SDLC).
Reuse common procedures ensuring no unnecessary replication of programming code making use of developed standards.
Quality assure all programming code ensuring that it is in line with Data Management/departmental standards.
Write, test and schedule programming code to reconcile data residing in the EDW/Data Lake, data marts, source data and GL ensuring that any anomalies are reported on and where applicable actioned.
Adhere to organisational data governance framework and data management principles (DAMA).
Develop a fundamental level of understanding of data and its uses within the organization.
Write once-off programming code to satisfy the data requirements for adhocs where the data is not readily available for data specialists/super users.
Write programming code to extract data and produce automated standard descriptive reports in line with business requirements.
Ensure that the content of the Data Office environment(s) meet and function according to the stated business and data governance requirements.
Investigate and resolve production incidents by doing a root cause analysis and implement the required changes.
Investigate and validate sources of data, data discrepancies as and when required/requested.
Log all changes that have been authorised to go into production via the change control procedures.
Document and maintain Meta Data on programmes and procedures in line with Meta Data Management principles with a key focus on the ability to find and use existing artefacts.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Mathematics
SAS and/or Data Warehousing certification would be advantageous.
5 - 8 years’ experience as a data programmer or business Intelligence programmer.
