    Senior Credit Analyst

    Role Purpose    

    • The role of the Senior Credit Analyst is to provide analysis and recommendations on potential credit investments as an input into the credit portfolio management process.

    Requirements    

    • Honours degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics or Statistics.
    • CFA or MCom in Finance or Risk Management/ working towards either (advantage).
    • 7+ years relevant experience in a banking or asset management environment.
    • Practical experience working with credit market securities (including structured securities).
    • Financial Statement Analysis.
    • Advanced excel proficiency, with the ability to build corporate financial models.
    • Strong research acumen.
    • Stakeholder management, analytical, influencing skills.

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Perform credit research across various sectors in the economy and have an understanding of the drivers of performance across such sectors.
    • Perform quarterly sector presentations in various forums.
    • Drive efficiencies within the research process, particularly through quantitative credit risk models.
    • Keep abreast of the latest regulatory and market development across the Fixed Income team’s focus sectors.
    • Perform in-depth fundamental counterparty analysis considering relevant credit risk indicators.
    • Build corporate financial models to support the investment thesis for an opportunity over the recommended investment horizon.
    • Pre-screen the investment opportunities timeously and share recommendations with the Fixed Income team based on a high-level fundamental credit analysis.
    • Review of applicable legal documentation for investment opportunities.
    • Perform post-investment monitoring of debt investments under the management of the Fixed Income team.
    • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with portfolio managers, asset originators, legal advisors and applicable governance committees.
    • Complete competitor analysis to assess the strengths and weaknesses of current and potential competitors. 
    • Analyse investment portfolios and financial instruments based on the outcomes and requirements of the mandate and business requirements. 
    • Custodian of the fixed income team credit process and philosophy.
    • Compile analyst reports with exposure recommendations on credit quality on a probability of default perspective.
    • Generate internal credit ratings for issuers in the investable universe.
    • Report generation & reporting to the various governance committees.
    • Lead member of the fixed income credit view in the TAA process.
    • Regular engagement with management teams as part of our ESG process.
    • Custodian of the credit watch list and regular updates and reviews of existing credit exposures.
    • Building and evaluating credit risk and attribution models for fixed income portfolios.
    • Build a credible profile in the market.
    • Pro-actively support and work with other areas with a spirit of teamwork and shared accountability.

    • Build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders.
    • Contribute to sustaining a competitive edge through external networking and benchmarking and representation on related forums.
    • Engage with key stakeholders to identify changing client needs and make recommendations to align service offering with client needs.
    • Contribute to a client service excellence culture which builds enduring relationships and allows team to provide exceptional client service.
    • Drive efforts to improve client service and fair treatment of fixed income clients.
    • Incorporate client feedback into the enhancement of daily business processes and management operating systems.
