Registered Nurse - Umhlanga at La Lucia Healthcare

KNOWLEDGE & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Practice patient care according to the Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility for these activities
• Contribute to the holistic care of patients
• Attend handover of report at shift commencement. Audit of health records to ensure compliance 
• Communicate effectively with patients regarding their care, and encourage them to participate in therapeutic activities
• Monitor progress, advise and arrange support for patients, relatives and carers
• Promote and maintain good public relations with patients, relatives and visitors
• Practice the principles of infection prevention and control.
• Carry out all departmental duties as assigned, and perform other duties as reasonably requested by the Unit Manager or senior member of staff.
• Liaising with multidisciplinary team i.e Doctors, social workers and other professionals
• Administer and store medication in accordance with care plans. Ensure all stock is well controlled and managed, charged and credited appropriately

EDUCATION & WORKING EXPERIENCE

• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional nurse and Psychiatric nurse
• Relevant qualification in Psychiatry B CUR/Diploma in Nursing (General, Community Health and Psychiatric) & Midwifery
• Prior experience in psychiatric nursing is essential (Minimum 2 years)
• Flexible in working hours/Shifts 
• Computer Literacy, SAP will be an advantage
• Three or more years of experience in a private hospital preferred
• A good understanding of mental illness
• Capacity to implement and maintain standards of health practice required from all accredited bodies and appropriate health legislation
