Principal Professional Officer- Policy at City of Cape Town

Requirements

• A relevant post-graduate degree (Master’s degree is advantageous)
• Candidates with a Master’s will be given preference
• Six (6) to eight (8) or more years relevant experience

Key Performance Areas

• Responsible for continuous improvement of the City's policy process in support of efficient and effective policy development
• Maintain oversight of the entire policy pipeline, working across all portfolios to ensure that high priority policy items progress effectively through the policy pipeline
• Coordinate resources within the Policy branch to ensure the progression of policy items through the policy pipeline
• Maintain a portfolio of policy instruments for development
• Develop policy training materials for the capacitation of relevant officials across the City’s departments to draft and progress policy instruments through the policy process
• Develop a visual tracking tool for policy instruments
• Engage transversally on policy issues with key internal and external stakeholders
• Problem solve complex policy issues with stakeholders
• Meet with the City’s political leadership regularly to discuss policy priorities and policy development
• Provide policy support, advice and counsel to the City’s political and executive leadership
• Perform functions in an acting capacity
