    NIMART Nurse (Zululand)

    MIET AFRICA, a regional NGO, requires Five Nimart Nurses to work on the Adolescent and Young People (AYP) Programme. MIET AFRICA is a sub-recipient of NACOSA, a principal recipient of the Global Fund grant, for the grant period ending in March 2025.
    Successful candidates will be based in Tshwane in Gauteng for the period of their contract.

    Key Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Provide excellent adolescent and youth friendly health/clinical services to patients attending the mobile clinic/Safe Spaces/healthfacilities
    • Provide health education to adolescent and youth programme beneficiaries to impact on their immediate and long-term health behavior
    • Conduct learner health assessment and screening to identify health barriers to learning, as well as identifying children who have or are at risk of long-term health, psychosocial or other problems
    • Counsel senior phase learners regarding sexual and reproductive health; provide dual protection, HCT and STI screening services on-site or at a mobile clinic/Safe Space/health facility
    • Initiate HIV positive clients onto ART as well as oversee pre-initiation screening and provide PrEP as requested
    • Develop and maintain close collaboration and coordination with school health nurses and schoolbased support teams (SBSTs) to guarantee smooth implementation of activities
    • Ensure effective and timeous planning, monitoring, and reporting on the programme, including participating in the collection of data in the area of practice
    • Work with patients and visitors on all health promotion issues including screening, counselling, and education
    • Establish and maintain positive working relationships across different government. departments within the district, and with otherstakeholders/partners including CBOs, community groups, schools, churches, learners, and individual community leaders/members
    • Ensure efficient and timely flow of management and operational information to managers and meet all reporting requirements
    • Represent the organization at meetings and events as directed by management
    • Ensure close working relationships with other staff and programme team members
    • Ensure that all allocated targets are met
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Degree/diploma in General Nursing Science
    • Current registration with South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a professional nurse
    • NIMART Certificate
    • Minimum three years appropriate/recognized experience in nursing after registration as a professional nurse with SANC in general nursing
    • Good knowledge of HIV/AIDS and TB management; HIV counselling course or relevant HIV testing experience
    • Relevant community nursing experience
    • Experience of working with youth
    • Ability to do health assessments, provide reproductive and sexuality education, provide counselling and advice
    • Excellent knowledge of nursing care processes and procedures and good knowledge of all legal frameworks such as Nursing Act, Health Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Patients Right Charter, Batho Pele Principles, Public Service Regulations, Labour Relations Act etc.
    • Ability to work in a team and network
    • Good planning, organizational, report writing and problem-solving skills
    • Sound interpersonal skills including negotiating, conflict management, and counselling skills
    • Computer literate (MS Office package)
    • Good communication skills (written and verbal) in isiZulu and English
    • A driver’s license would beadvantageous
